Is anyone else enjoying the slower pace of content?
  • The lack of unwanted rage bait posts and karma farmers has improved my mood by a lot. I gotta be honest though, I’m still scrolling through Apollo and giving myself my last dopamine hits before July 1st. Won’t miss that place

  • Beehaw.org has announced they will be defederating from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works
  • Possibly and that’s the beauty of it. People will stay for different reasons and it seems that the standard of good-faith interactions on Beehaw will make a certain demographic stay. It’s not so difficult to exist in two different instances anyway especially because those two that you mentioned have open registration. We’ll just have to see how it goes moving forward

  • Beehaw.org has announced they will be defederating from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works
  • I think the mods have expressed that this was more of a decision driven by the lack of efficient modding tools as of the moment. Of course, also taking into consideration that they really do want to stay true to their ethos in the first place. I personally feel better interacting within Beehaw because the community is headed in a healthier direction as opposed to just being another reddit dupe/reddit refugee camp

  • What seasonings would you say make up a complete pantry? I'm trying to get a list full of everything that I want to start making sure I always have a jar in, as there is nothing worse than going to ma
  • It really depends on what type of cuisine you’ll usually make. Take note I’m writing this at 4am in the morning and my recall isn’t that great.

For most American dishes, it’s going to be garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper. Adding another layer of flavor with dried herbs (usually for Italian inspired dishes) includes oregano, rosemary, basil, thyme, marjoram, and sage. For south asian cooking there’s cumin, garam masala, cardamom, turmeric, curry powder, coriander, clove, and saffron. For east asian dishes there’s chili flakes, msg, gochugaru, ginger powder, bay leaves, sesame seeds, five spice, furikake, and more

Of course, never forget the salt and pepper. These are what I’ve worked with so far (actually some of those I listed I’ve never even tasted before lol) and I believe there’s a lot more but just buy them one at a time as you try new dishes and decide whether it’s going to be a repeat dish or a once in a blue moon kinda eat. That way you don’t have 10 jars that are always untouched (unless you’re cool with that of course).

  • Life after mainstream social media
  • I only follow the limit when my mental health is great. Otherwise, I'm stuck in an endless hole of doom-scrolling. Your self control is stronger than mine lol

  • Reading / Interpretation Requests Thread
  • Hello there! I’ll definitely try to do more readings soon and I’ll try posting them here for fun. Thanks for creating this community!

  • My first post
  • Hi!!

  • Life after mainstream social media
  • Your self control with Tiktok is admirable. I tried setting 30 minute limits for the apps but it just doesn’t work for me. I’m glad Beehaw is giving you so much fulfillment too c:

  • Life after mainstream social media
  • I’m definitely going to do my best to scrub as much as I can with the help of my tech husband lol. I’ve had some of those accounts since 2010 and I’ll definitely have to put in some work.

The slowness actually helps me ground better. Like, it gives my brain time to buffer to better digest the information given to me. The learning curve to access this community isn’t that steep and I’m not a picky user anyway. I’ll stay primarily for the vibes lol

  • What's your go-to comfort food?
  • Mine would be Soon Veggie ramen noodles with tofu, dried seaweed, dried shiitake mushrooms, and sesame oil drizzled on top with a side of kimchi. All cooked in a tiny steel single serving bowl. I miss the days when my little sister and I would eat hot ramen outdoors during chilly nights.

  • How do you use Lemmy well?
  • Cute animals are an easy start! Maybe asking for some food recommendations or even just posting something you’ve made. The possibilities are endless! It’s not a popularity contest anyway. People will see it and go ”hmmm” and maybe drop a comment. As long as you’re within the community and BeeHaw’s rules, you’ll be fine c:

  • How do you use Lemmy well?
  • Well, first and foremost, break the barrier of lurking and start posting. I still have yet to do that because I feel like I don’t have a lot to post other than cute pics of my dog lol. Lemmy isn’t reddit so it’s not going to be as hostile. It’s still the internet though so expect a little pushback every now and then.

Comment more on posts and try to keep in mind that each comment is like having a real face-to-face conversation with other users. This community is pleasant and I feel very at peace interacting here compared to the other site. This is the first time I’m commenting so much on posts too and it’s been a blast!

  • What's the weirdest food you've eaten?
  • Well this was way before I went vegan but when I was younger, my dad would buy me balut. Balut is a delicacy in the Philippines and it’s basically boiled fertilized duck egg. One has to crack open the top part of the shell and drink the juices first. Then the whole shell is peeled off. The yolk would be the most edible part and I’ve known many Filipinos who just drink the juice and eat the yolk. Sometimes they’ll even eat a white part which has similar texture with very tough cartilage. Others go a little bit further and eat the tiny duck embryo. It’s commonly dipped in spicy vinegar or salt to give it more flavor. It’s definitely the furthest thing from healthy and I definitely wouldn’t eat it ever again

  • I created an iOS Shortcut to summarize a web page article!
  • That makes sense :D thank you!

  • I created an iOS Shortcut to summarize a web page article!
  • This is really cool! I’ve come across a problem though. In the shortcut steps, there seems to be an “Unknown Action” which also states that “This action could not be found in this version of Shortcuts.” What’s causing this?

  • Share zoomed in pictures of your pet!
  • The lens makes his snoot so big lol

  • why I ended up leaving Reddit today
  • I was also scared of doing the same thing but I just really had to rationalize that this platform isn't reddit and therefore it wouldn't be as hostile as reddit. I was scared to comment anything on the previous platform because of the same sentiments. This place is very chill tho

  • new Beehaw community icons!
  • I think this is the first time that I saw someone's voluntary art work compensated after being implemented in a community. The transparency is surreal and very admirable. Thank you for compensating artists and valuing the art that @[email protected] made c:

  • Coffee: Unbelached vs Bleached?
  • As a coffee novice, I also wondered whether bleach had something to do with flavor lol

  • What are you grateful for this week? Gratitude thread
  • That's good to know! I also just had a friend tell me about networking and how nepotism just works that way. I understand that people are more inclined to work with someone they know at some level instead of a complete stranger.

I've been lying low lately because migrating to another country is a struggle and I really just have to break that barrier of anxiety to get myself out there. Also, there's another wall with not knowing how to drive in a car centric city and a very limited amount of money.

I just finished building my resume last night and it's time to send them to whomever will accept it. Starting a new chapter like this feels so nerve wracking, I'm not gonna lie
