couldn't use other app (lemmur) as it doesn't list lemmy.world đą using an older version of jerboa worked though đ
that worked đ
there is only one other app on f-droid, I've avoided it since it has not been updated in almost a year. I'll give it a go đ
totally agree
lemmy.world not meeting minimal version requirement for app Jerboa for Lemmy
installed Jerboa for Lemmy, but when I try to log in it complains that lemmy.world does not meet minimal version requirement.
The minimal version requirement is 0.18, but the server is running 0.17.4:
when will the server be updated?
Having tried both types of mouse now, I prefer the scroll wheel on the side so I'll be sticking with the simple cheap version.
@FarLine99 maybe, but could be that you have to be a user for a while before being counted as active user.
I almost hope it "fails" to replace reddit, since reddit was/is crap. I'd perfer if lemmy remained relatively small, without the toxic userbase and spammy content of reddit.

Totally agree on RSS and IRC.
Vim, the text editor, is far better than most new alternatives. There is a learning curve tho, but you only have to climb it once.
I can imagine that just fine
sure, it is faster, but every OS loads a tonne more stuff - not just windows. same with most applications and websites, almost everything is extremely bloated these days.
I have a machine running Linux with dwm, but since I can't use it at my job I end up rarely using it at all :p
perfect mouse for chording
TLDR; mouse chording is triggering custom actions (like copying text) by holding down a mouse button and then pressing another. This is best done with a three-button-mouse, where the middle button does not double as scroll wheel.
---
I became aware of this when I discovered Acme, the text editor of plan9 - which uses mouse chording for a few things. This explanation of mouse chording in Acme is pretty good.
I found it very interesting and wanted this to work system wide on my computer.
After some hacking in AutoHotKey I got the following setup to work:
- Left + Middle = copy
- Left + Right = paste
- Right + Left = undo
- Right + Middle = redo
- Middle + Left = enter
- Middle + Right = space
- Middle + Scroll = switch app (Alt+Tab)
I find this very useful, and it saves me from needing to switch back and forth between the keyboard and mouse all the time, which is annoying.
I can also be productive while using only the mouse - especially for simple tasks like data entry; copying text fields, one by one, from one window to another.
---
To do this effectively, one really needs a three button mouse, often referred to as "CAD mouse" (because of some software called CAD that requires this).
Mice like this are kind of rare, but I eventually found this, which is what I currently use: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Shengshou-Buttons-Scroll-Wireless-Suitable/dp/B0832BBY8Y/
I really like how the scroll wheel is on the side and out of the way of the buttons.
This one is more or less the same, but with the scroll wheel between the left and middle button: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Wireless-Rechargeable-Precision-Portable-Defining/dp/B087TFLVPJ/
This seems to be the perfect mouse for chording, but It's a little expensive: https://www.amazon.com/3DConnexion-CadMouse-Pro-Mouse-Optical/dp/B08R5KS38N/
I'll probably get one eventually, since it has back and forward buttons which I can use to add even more custom chordings.
Anyone else into mouse button chording? Any other good mice for this?
I've long thought I should record all my books, and figure out which ones I will probably never read and sell them. Could probably clear out a shelf or two.
modern computers are slower and more annoying
I feel like computers have gotten 1000x more powerful and still somehow slower and more annoying to use in the last 40 years.
the good old commodore 64 booted in 2 seconds. as soon as it was up, you could start writing commands; no login, no updates, no popups..
not interested - any browser based on chromium is going to force manifest V3 and stop supporting ad-blockers. firefox with ublock is the way to go, for me. I like their search engine tho.
saving food scraps to make broth - it's good for reducing waste, but pointless for saving money - broth cubes cost nothing and the scraps will just take up space in the freezer that could be used for better cost saving activities.
I'm using raspberry pi zeros with motioneyeOS đ not the best hardware, but gets the job done on a budget
I have two rpi zeros running motioneyeOS, one is a nannycam in the baby`s bedroom, and the other is a doorcam.
I also have wireguard running on a rpi 3b, which lets me connect to the home network from anywhere (like a proxy) and access the live video feeds, and anything else on my network; like my jellyfin server (not on a raspberry).
I'm considering Home Assistant on a Raspberry pi 400, but don't really have any smart devices to use it for - thinking of buying some cheap controllable power outlets. I already have the 400, for some reason, so I have to use it for something...

Fairphone 4, running CalyxOS
Very happy with it, easy to take apart and repair. worst is the camera - possibly a flaw in calyxos and not the hardware tho
iphones were the best sony were the worst, it fell apart
i upgrade every two years, on average, with a fairphone I expect to keep my phone for longer because of the reparability
no other android devices
have a macbook and ipad
