@lemmyreader @schmorpel I'm using Yunohost for several years now. It is very comfy for a non-programmer to maintain. Also quite stable, except a few weird failures to restore backups. The biggest downsize is that app packaging needs to be maintained by someone. You get updates only when a packager brings you that update. For example, Discourse package is abandoned and now is so outdated that almost unusable.

I think the only system to believe in here is sensitivity to feelings and histories of others. If you don't mind triggering literally millions of people whose families were hurt by soviets, it is your choice.

Meaning is also contextual - different cultures put different meaning in symbols. To represent global ideas we need some consensus.
Baltic neo-pagans were rigtfully culturally suppressed from using swastika as "symbol of Sun". Hammer and sickle also signifies millions of deaths and decades of repressioms. It is even forbidden in some post soviet countries along with swastika. Lets find something less damaging to represent marxist ideas.

Who designs and modifies the chains? Any democracy there? No, not even NGOs, just for-profit tech bros. You can only use their chains by their rules.
Blockchain looks "decentralised" only at user level. Differently from international DNS, which is much more decentralised in control structure, and provides your own freedom in any technology. Blockchains operate under DNS, so they do not remove their constraints, but only add a layer of control of their own.

@tryptaminev Why? It would not take away anything from volunteer infrastructure, but would add safety options.
Volunteer servers need users to trust their admins with no grounds for that, but the fact that they "want to run a community", which also implies that they have personal politics and power over you. Fedi should not be only for existing communities. Also, there's financial stability as noted above.
And there are some grounds to trust your democratic representatives, aren't there.
@stabby_cicada I think digital public space is as important as physical public space. A lot of this communication space is well provided by private people and companies, but to ensure freedom nation states must also invest in it. Just like physical public space, it is a common good, a res-publica.
