I have no idea how "Reddit + Fediverse" (i.e. Lemmy) works in terms of federating, but on Reddit, all you had to do was select an option to set your subreddit to private (only visible to subscribers).
It seems strange if Lemmy doesn't have a similar feature, for example, if you run a niche community and don't want random people giving unwelcome, ignorant, malevolent, etc. opinions. Also, in case Lemmy ever has enough users to be prone to "brigading" (groups ganging up on a community to downvote everything, harass subscribers, etc.), a "private" option seems like a basic and necessary feature.
Is there such thing as a private community on Lemmy?
Is there a setting anywhere for moderators to take a community private (to make the posts, comments and other data visible only for people who are subscribed)?
If so, how does the mechanism work for finding and/or subscribing to private communities?
If you’re here from Reddit, you already know what this place is about. :)
This is a placeholder for the Desi Two X community. If you’re from Reddit (especially one of the mods there), or want to moderate here, send a PM. :)
I claimed the name so that it wouldn't be taken by some random person.
If people start posting here, that's fine. I'll moderate until a moderator team grows -- so if you want to be a mod here, definitely get in touch and we'll talk.

If you're here from Reddit, our sister subreddit is /r/love_fromabrownplanet.
Since Reddit seems to be going down the dark path of Twitter, this is our home community on the Lemmy side of social media.
Feel free to subscribe and say 'hi' if you're a Redditor, and especially if you're a member on our old (yet still somewhat new) subreddit. :)
Creating new communities seems disabled right now, anyway...?
