Anyone selling a Gergoplex
  • As I just wrote, I didn't intend this to be a trade. I wasn't sure whether Gergoplex was still in production or not, so I was trying to find vendors that might still have PCBs. Haven't found anything which makes sense since it appears it's not on production.

  • This was a poor post on my part. I was looking for a vendor that might still be selling these (not for a private trade like mechmarket). Was also curious about alternatives to the Gergoplex since it's not longer in production AFAIK. The thumb cluster on it is really unique, so while I know there are similar sizes boards out there I was really looking specifically for this board.

I'd love to have one of these but they're not made anymore. Anyone still making / selling them?

Gotta love the packaging from MKUltra

    Tern, 30-key Hummingbird variant
  • This is beautiful. Exactly the layout that I've been wanting too - 23332 for the fingers and 2 thumbs. I think this is the ideal balance between too few and too many keys while remaining super comfy.

  • I've had similar experiences and have had much more luck with combo mods. This article describes the idea and it works well. I use a slight variation in that all of my combos are one shot so you're not having to make weird finger contortions to reach things, just hit the combo and then the letter. https://jasoncarloscox.com/blog/combo-mods/

  • Anyone have a good way to mount a low profile rotary encoder?
  • Good idea on the single key pcbs. Got a link? And man, sorry about the explosion. Totally didn't think about how it'd affect sales. So far I still don't think it was a good move. I keep running into more buggy stuff with lemmy, and every time I search for something on google I get a reddit link. No new posts on here are gonna get picked up by Google so that's the end of searchability.

  • Anyone have a good way to mount a low profile rotary encoder?

I usually mount encoders by just gluing them in place. JB weld works great. But I got this low profile one from beekeeb and if you put glue on the bottom it will stop it from rotating. I'm trying to think of other strategies. Right now I'm working on a way to somehow mount it to the bottom half of a choc switch and then glue the switch to the pcb, but still don't have a good way to do it.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not trying to mount this in a pcb designed for an encoder. I'm putting it in place of a typical switch on a pcb. In the past I've just used JB weld on the bottom of an EC11 to hold it in place and it worked great. The issue with this one is that the bottom is open, so if I use any kind of glue to mount it the glue will also prevent the encoder from rotating. You can see what I mean here: https://shop.beekeeb.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/IMG_2433-scaled.jpg

    Fixes for buggy Lemmy stuff?
  • I feel like we could all benefit heavily from a sticky post with some basic info for people coming here. Link to this post for good clients, link to obosob's post on why we're on Lemmy now, any other helpful stuff for Lemmy newbs like me. u/obosob what do you think?

  • Fixes for buggy Lemmy stuff?
  • This is a pretty significant long term issue. Overall search-ability is just an issue with federated content.

On the plus side it looks like I can reply to comments after all. It just won't let me know Thunder (definitely not using that client now)

  • Fixes for buggy Lemmy stuff?

The decision was made to blow up the Reddit community and come here, so we have to make this work. But I'm already seeing a bunch of issues with Lemmy. Posting this so hopefully we can find solutions. Issues:

    • Search-ability: I can't find people. When I search for users it simply doesn't work. Edit: Also apparently a client thing. Sucks though that if you choose the wrong client whole features just aren't supported.
    • Messages: Pretty bare bones interface. I guess it's good enough to send you discord so you can have a conversation there.
    • Replies: Looks like you can only reply to posts and not other replies 🤦‍♂️...so much for tractable conversations. This is my single biggest complaint about Mastodon - it's almost impossible to follow a single conversation. Really hope this will be addressed. Edit: looks like this was a client thing. Phew!
    • Updates: I just tried to login on a different client but couldn't because the instance I'm on isn't up to date enough with the minimum support version.
    • Clients: I've tried Thunder and attempting Jerboa (can't yet for the above reason), any other better ones?

I hope these are all fixable. The replies thing is pretty terrible.

Just so this isn't an entirely downer post, here's what I'm liking about Lemmy:

    • Ad free: 🎉 Love love love this.
    • Open source: Look, open source projects can be a little janky. But open source feels like a part of the DNA of this community, so I'm always happy to see everyone using FOSS.
    • Community support: No matter what the interface, the people make the community, and it's been pretty cool to see everyone just keep posting and carrying on over here. Like, it's been a pretty smooth transition so far.

Anyone make the board I'm describing?
  • @rafaelromao for sure on the low cost way to mess around with mappings. I still have my original ergodox EZ precisely for trying out new layouts. I love their online configurator for how fast it is to set something up and prototype an idea, so I've been doing that a little while now and I'm thinking the layout I described in this post is what I want to build next. I've never built a unibody before, so the hummingbird looks fun to try. Like the idea of a single controller, and the portability of a unibody.

  • Anyone make the board I'm describing?

I really love what Ben Vallack has done with the piano (featured in this video if you haven't seen it). But I'm terrified of trying to learn such a small layout.

I think my ideal would be similarly just 2 thumbs on each side, and instead of 1222 like the piano, I'd want 23332. Anything like this out there?

    Wylderbuilds and Lemmy
  • Glad to see everyone keeping the community alive over here. I was super skeptical this would look anything like reddit but so far it's actually quite similar minus annoying ads, so all around good stuff.

  • What apps are people using with Lemmy

I guess I have to try this site now, so what are people using for Android? Any good apps?
