What do you think of people making memes/jokes about the recent Titan tragedy?
  • Most of what I have seen on the meme communities I follow have been par-and-course with what I expected to see on internet. Although I agree that it is morally wrong to joke with malintent when someone passes, I think humor is a normal response to tragedy. As long as the memes aren't egregious about it, then they still get a chuckle out of me and help me feel better about the situation.

  • Sea Bears Basketball! Who has been?
  • I went to my first game last week and it was great! The presentation was very professional and is probably the closest you'll get to an NBA game here in Winnipeg. As for the different ending rules, I am not sure what they are exactly since the Seabears destroyed the team they were playing when I went.

  • Starfield’s 30fps frame rate is “a choice,” God of War dev says
  • What I meant by that comment is that even when TOTK drops frames, it never bothers me enough to retract from the gameplay. It is consistent in when, and how it drops frames.

This is in contrast to most AAA games these days that seem to vary anywhere from 120+ fps to sub-30 fps at random. This causes studder, inconsistent frame times/input latency, and overall just bad feeling controls.

  • Here’s the note Reddit sent to moderators threatening them if they don’t reopen
  • My god that is scummy. I am getting the sense that they will just force re-open all of the private subreddits, and Reddit will just continue on as if nothing happened. They'll be continuing on without any of my traffic though. I am done with companies manipulating and exploiting their users to generate profits.

  • What games are you currently playing?
  • Amnesia: The Bunker has been amazing so far. It has been checking all the boxes for effective, fun-to-play, horror. The gameplay loop and systems make it so it's easy to pick up and put down, where each adventure into the bunker feels like you are breaking some new ground before returning back to the central saferoom. The sound and level design are also perfect. All I can say is that it really does feel like I am in a sprawling WW1 bunker that has a horrifying eldritch monster burrowing in its walls.

  • Gamepass with Proton?
  • Yep, for steamdeck your options are to install windows or to stream. Greenlight is a good linux application that handles the streaming better than the website imo. It can also do remote play if you have an Xbox, which generally has much lower input latency.

  • Gamepass with Proton?
  • It is currently not possible. Games installed through GamePass have some kind of Windows compatibility layer which cannot be run by any wine or proton versions. At least not yet.

  • well i tried
  • Set up your own media server with all the *arr applications (google these, they are amazing), then you will really be sailing the high seas with no need for streaming services.

  • Is the anabolic window a real thing?
  • Pretty much this. I believe the general consensus is that at a small timescale, nutrient timing may have some effect, but at long timescales where it really matters for body composition, a small caloric surplus and adequate protein intake are all that are needed to reliably build muscle when resistance training.

  • Starfield’s 30fps frame rate is “a choice,” God of War dev says
  • As long as it's a consistent 30 fps, then I am fine with this decision.

Tears of the Kingdom has convinced me that as long as the performance is consistent, the only thing that matters is the gameplay.

But it is Bethesda we are talking about here lol.

  • US moves to block Microsoft's Activision takeover
  • I think the misconception here is that Microsoft would STAY pro-consumer after acquiring everything under the sun. Companies are forced to be pro-consumer when there is actual competition, and the opposite is almost always true without regulation.

  • What distro(s) do you use?
  • I have been using Nobara. It is maintained by Glorious Eggroll who develops popular Wine and Proton forks, and it has been a pretty pain-free experience playing the latest games with near native performance.
