Mozilla review of 25 car brands finds they're "a privacy nightmare"
  • Miniscule amount of data. Probably cheap AF negotiated prices

  • Nim v2.0 released
  • Agreed. Not fair to Nim for sure.

  • Nim v2.0 released
  • I definitely need to explore more options. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • August 2023 monthly "What are you working on?" thread
  • Solar system sim stuff.

Increased the computational core performance 120X by rewriting in Rust (og was Python).

Was a great first experience for me with Rust. Used pyo3 / maturin to make a python library in rust

  • Nim v2.0 released
  • No issue setting up Nim itself (and I realize my complaint is not fault to Nim itself) but it would be great if this complimentary jupyter kernel for Nim would work on MacOS... Hasn't been maintained in a while: https://github.com/stisa/jupyternim/issues/38

Would be very useful for my workflow as someone who wants to explore Nim for data science-y type tasks.

Anyone know of an alternative Nim jupyter kernel?

  • Nim v2.0 released
  • I want to love Nim but during my trial run with it. It was a pain in the ass to get set up on my Mac in a way that I could use it easily ie as a repl for quick and dirty prototyping and learning

  • Sync for Lemmy (beta) is now live for everyone
  • My first comment from S4L.

  • Firefox 115.0.3 released
  • Somewhat related... Why doesn't Firefox on Android support true PWAs?

Firefox keeps giving me reasons to not want to use it again.

At least pull to refresh is there now.

  • help i keep getting logged out
  • Same. Can't stay logged in to lemmy.world account.

When I do login, I can't see subscribed communities list or inbox. And after a few mins I get logged out completely

  • YSK: Hitting submit more than once will post your comment/thread multiple times, even with the lag
  • Sounds like a bug to be that needs to be ironed out on the backend 😉

  • So... how's Lemmy doing? Any plans to upgrade soon?
  • ITT:

People explaining how Lemmy.world has experienced growth.

Nobody explaining how the servers are being upgraded to handle the growth.

Tbh, I understand that lemmy.world has "lots" of users (is several 100k even that many?)... But it's nice to understand the work pipeline/plan that aims to make things better

  • ysk - your account doesn't exist on other instances and communities don't overlap
  • I swear upvote counts are isolated to individual instances too. I don't think they are supposed to be... But one post on Lemmy.world viewed from Lemmy.world shows hundreds of upvotes, but on another smaller instance it shows 5 upvotes.

I hope that's not the way Lemmy is intended to work.

It makes no sense at all

  • New App Icon?
  • It's not quite my cup of tea but I appreciate your work

  • New App Icon?
  • I like the current icon

  • And so it ends
  • Thanks to everyone for being here.

What happened to Reddit fucking sucks, but it stings a little less with the community we are building here.

I'm so happy that we have something. Currently sending this from the wefwef.app which is just stunningly beautiful Apollo clone for Lemmy that a dev put together in a few days. It's insane .

I hope communities here grow to something amazing.

  • How can I see total subscibers (across all instances) for a community?

My instance is relatively small, so when I search for communities to join, it often shows me that only 5 people are subscribed (from my instance), whereas the total # of subscribers across all instances may be in the thousands. I'd like to see the latter number while searching for communities to join.
