Just a man, who people say is obsessed with birds, making his way through life leaving a trail of breadcrumbs in the form of assorted media.

Born in that perceived golden era of the 90s and raised on video games. I have plans to create my own game one day and alongside my YouTube Channel is currently my main creative focus.

Review for Duke Nukem Advance on Game Boy Advance from Nintendo Official Magazine 122 - November 2002 (UK)

Can confirm that this game is a great FPS game for the GBA!

The fact it is also a completely new Duke game and not a port of Duke3D is also really cool!

I have this on my to-play list, in fact it is loaded up on my Steam Deck, but I have been having issues with Sega Saturn games and keep telling myself I will look at that at some point 😅

    Love a good mech shooter!

Ahhh, I must be confusing things then. I knew some racers came out for the GBA very early on and an early GBA magazine I bought as a kid had Mario Kart as the prominent feature!

For the first handheld entry in the Mario Kart franchise, this game was amazing. It was also the first one to start introducing retro tracks/cups.

It was also a launch title for the GBA, if I remember correctly.

It is probably a little rough around the edges by modern standards, but I remember chucking hours into this.

Oh, it also introduced the rating system for performance in a cup. To this day, I have only managed one triple star in 50cc Mushroom Cup 🤣

It is on the list to revisit, but I am currently playing Mario Kart DS.

I mean, I played many import games in my childhood, so the fact I played this back in the day in the UK means very little about its availability in Europe 😅

I remember a friend having this game, and we played it a few times, we had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on.

Besides Doom on the SNES, I had never really played any FPS games until Goldeneye on the N64, so navigating was always a challenge, and I think the HUD just confused me.

I think I need to revisit this at some point, as it seems really interesting.

  • Preview for Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow on the Nintendo DS.

I'll get some footage to demonstrate it because it is hilarious.

Also, it makes Boss Rush super easy when you can just skip certain annoying bosses, allowing you to get the Rocket Propelled Grenade easily. The RPG isn't as good as it sounds sadly... But this is Castlevania, not Devil May Cry

This is one of my favourite Castlevania games to break. There are a bunch of pretty easy sequence breaks.

Using a knife style weapon that has the backstab special attack can activate switches behind walls/doors, allowing you to skip chunks of the map.

There is also the combination of using the succubus soul and the previously mentioned exploit to just straight-up glitch through walls 😅

Ignoring those names for a second...

The DS was the perfect device to have an array of tools, like dictionaries developed for it. I had an electronic dictionary when I was abroad, and it was just an amazing device that cost me a small fortune...

I still have it somewhere, but today, I tend to go to Jisho.org whenever I need to translate the odd word

I am very out of practice with my Japanese. Though I recently found my Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar, which is a fantastic but chunky, yellow book that really helped me during my university course.

That being said, grammar was never my problem. Vocabulary was always the hardest thing for me.

I feel like I am being threatened with a good time...

I'll have to have a bit of a fish around. See if i can find a translation patch. Sadly, DS games are a pain in the butt for emulation, mostly because of that damn Dual Screen thing.

I know it calls it bad.
But that bomb disposal squad game looks like prime meme material.

I'd be down for trying that 😆

  • Preview for Disgaea DS and Moto Racer DS on Nintendo DS.

I sank a ridiculous amount of time into Disgaea DS. Just constantly jumping back into the item world to get progressively better items until I was strong enough to smack down the Dark Council whenever I wanted to push through stuff.

I did eventually Prinny Baal, that was my crowning achievement from that game.

Both Deep Fear and Enemy Zero are on my list to play!

God knows when I will get around to them though.

  • Last weekend I was saying that after a very long time, I had the urge to play a FPS again.

Future Perfect is an absolute god-tier game, they clearly had some writers who understood the absurdities of time travel and leaned into that.

    "Take this, you'll need it"
    passes ghost gun
"Where did you get this from?"
"I dunno. The previous me gave it to me!"

    This god damn game 😂
I never finished this one, and it is on the list.

I remember that it had lots of really obtuse collectibles, which are sometimes alluded to, and other times they are not.

Like in the first stage, if you use the crashed rocket's engines to incinerate a sheep corpse, you get a special thing. I only knew about that because it was in a magazine.

Definitely have mixed feelings about going back to that one when I get a chance 😂

As an adult, I can appreciate it, and in fact MGS2 has one of my favourite stories.

I think at the time it really fed into the hero worship of Solid Snake, and as you said, masterfully played

My favourite thing about the build-up to MGS2 was not mentioning Raiden or the main plot at all and then being blindsided by the bait and switch 😂

  • Feature on Buck Bumble for Nintendo 64 from 64 Magazine 14 - June 1998 (UK)

I promise to get to this at some point.
It is sitting there on my deck ready to go, but I kept getting distracted, and now I am playing catch up on Spoop related stuff 😅

  • And finally we have the unreleased Spooky by ICE (International Computer Entertainment) for the Nintendo 64.

Damn. Not going to lie. Kinda want this.

This is why I love the Horror scene at Itch.io they churn out some great PS1/N64 aesthetic stuff for horror games.
