Hexbear will be federating soon, there should be pinned post explaining it
  • Yeah I’ve been here, and on Hexbear the same amount of time, and they’re both kinda similar. There is def more people who aren’t explicitly ML on Hexbear, but most are. They all seem to love Cuba, and I’ve never seen anyone shit on AES nations. Sure they’re not as hardline, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out here imo. Though I do totally understand the worry! Just don’t entirely agree with the assessment on Hexbear. I’m ML, just to be clear.

  • Well it is nice to write about politics without having 20 libs in my replies saying that I am supporting the death of the 86 billion people killed by Communism hahaha. I like it, it's definitely better for my mood, and my eyes finally get to relax after having to roll them every time I scroll through the comments on Reddit.

  • Ah thank you for the explanation. Just got here 5 days ago, so some of the fediverse things still are a bit confusing to me. But no matter, nice to have it written up anyway, I think some of the sources are pretty good to confuse liberals about their beliefs, so hope people here can use them.

  • Alright since there is a claim here that you are cool with political opinions being voiced, I'm gonna assume that you mean this, and you're not just saying so.

Now since you say that you are pro-left/socialist, I'm gonna assume that you are aware that the west/The US has lied in the past about other countries, and their atrocities? (Iraq, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.) Please follow me here, read, and then judge afterwards. I'm not asking you to believe me fully after a single post, I'm just gonna give you some articles from providers that you probably trust, and I'm going to let you form your own opinion afterward.

    Tiananmen Square:

    1. The Telegraph reports on WikiLeaks source, that there was no actual bloodshed inside Tiananmen Square. Read the entire thing, there is of course nuance. Link is through 12ft to get around paywall

    2. The BBC admits to being wrong about a lot of their reporting. Quote: "There was no massacre on Tiananmen Square."

    3. Interview with one of the protest leaders of the Student Protest movement. He is still critical of the Chinese government. He says that there was no tanks in Tiananmen Square, and that it is dangerous to lie just to try to win.

Now these are just the sources that explain this. If you look far enough you will also find pictures of dead Chinese soldiers burned to a crisp, strung up by the neck. These pictures are hard to look at. But maybe you think that the protest was just. Okay. But please understand that even western media does not actually think there was a massacre in the Square.

I'm gonna let someone else handle The Holodomor, as I don't have extensive western sources ready for this one, and I kinda have to get some things done. But understand that a lot of us here used to believe exactly what you do. Then we read a lot about the history of these places, and came to a different conclusion. We are not just people who love murderers in here, we have come to our conclusions through a lot of reading, and a lot of discussion. We are critical of the USSR, China, etc. but we try to be nuanced about this. We understand that a state over decades will do bad things, and we try to learn from this, and try to prevent it from happening again. But it is sometimes a little funny to pretend that we are much more extreme than we are IRL, because liberals are a little funny when they get mad. Sorry, but that's the truth.

  • lemmy.ml server capacity issue are very problematic for us
  • But Radio Free Europe, and Radio Free Asia are the epitome of journalistic integrity! So good that almost all of US media parrots what they say! Are you telling me that US media would use bad sources for their news stories? That's crazy talk! (/s just in case)

  • lemmy.ml server capacity issue are very problematic for us
  • Damn imagine. They really should be paying us tbh, we do some good work lmao. But yeah, to be serious, it always seems wild that China would actively be paying people to do this shit, like have they considered that we actually are just ideologically kind of aligned with the CPC? Much more easy conclusion to come to imo, Occam's Razor and all that.

  • Check out the posts on c/ukraine over at lemmy.ml, indistinguishable from Reddit at this point
  • As one of the people who just got here, I do kind of like that lemmygrad seems kind of closed off from the rest. Because lots of "leftist" places back on Reddit would eventually be taken over by SocDems or Libs once they got big enough, so just having a place where they just wont go seems nice. Dunno if brigading by libs is a thing that happens often here though? Haven't been here long enough to know.

  • What is your favorite tree species?
  • I quite like Nordmann fir also known as the Danish Christmas Tree. Good memories of being a kid, and putting decorations on them. Never a religious thing for us, just a nice little thing where me, my mom, and my grandma would do something together. With everything going on in the world I do cherish those childhood memories. I miss it to be honest, and hadn't thought about that for a while, so thanks for reminding me comrade, I actually needed that.

  • Controlled Opposition exposes itself
  • Yeah the good old joke about the west being so good at propaganda that "there is no propaganda in the west" is very applicable here. I know quite a few good people, who are just not media literate enough to understand when they are being duped. And to be fair, the propaganda is constant, and from birth. To be anti-NATO in a NATO country is not something you just stumble into being, you actually have to read, and actively understand how the world works.

Not trying to excuse anyone here by the way, it just makes me sad when people I otherwise have liked fall to propaganda. I hope they learn, they are still young, and god knows I had some stupid beliefs when I was 18-20 years old.

    Edit: Pronouns, sorry

  • Welcome to our new users. Tell us about yourself!
  • Had a Reddit account for like 10 years, but have been starting to grow tired of how incredibly liberal Reddit was, so after the whole third-party app thing I decided to take the plunge on Lemmy. Nice to see that it seems like there is some more lefty influence here. I'm from Denmark, and have always been left-adjacent, but thought for a long time that SocDem was good enough (how very Scandinavian of me). Over the last 3-4 years I have changed this opinion though, after being exposed to more leftist theory, and have become a ML. Hope this place works out well! I have to admit that I'm a bit skeptical of this whole "fediverse" thing after trying Mastodon, and not really liking it. But I will try!
