Defederation Policy
  • I was referring to lemmygrad.

  • why lemmy.fmhy.ml was down for a day and the changes made after that
  • I also want to mention this happened at 2 or 3 AM EST, which only had 2 admins on, me and the hoster. I should've made a post, but given the severity, lack of info, and lack of staff members, we both decided to shut it down immediately until it was patched. I personally apologize for the downtime but I hope it's understandable why we did it this way. In case something like this happens again, I'll post it in the FMHY Divolt server.

  • Defederation Policy
  • Defederating from people who support bombing innocent people is not censorship ๐Ÿคฆ

  • Why is the fmhy instance defederated from the lemmygrad instance?
  • Doesn't seem like it's the majority of users or people on the instance. From nbats on disc:

I just need more proof they're actually super malicious because most of the stuff linked was downvoted on exploding. in other words yeah shitheads exist there, but they don't seem to be the majority really

EDIT: after some further discussion we've decided to defederate. we'll be making a post sometime soon with a defederation policy.

  • Why is the fmhy instance defederated from the lemmygrad instance?
  • If you guys can link some bad posts that are actively encouraged by the instance then I'll add it to the blocked list. (This is why it isn't blocked right now - all I've heard is that it's just right wing, which doesn't constitute a block.)

  • Is there a place where I can get Nebula content?
  • You're probably just on the Home page. Swipe right or press the icon with three lines on the top left.

  • Is there a place where I can get Nebula content?
  • Yeah I asked you to post what you wanted to #Requests, and since you didn't respond I figured I'd ask you here ๐Ÿ˜… All of the exclusive Mustard videos should be there. LMK if there's anything I'm missing.

  • Is there something like the pirate bay but for direct downloads?
  • Those two seem pretty slow regardless, but you're right, that's not a big difference, so it could work... really, though, the main hurdle is popularity. Unless you're operating like a private tracker (which is no fun), it's going to be very hard to get both uploaders and users to it. You'll have to somehow get a lot of people interested, starting without any content (or if you're an uploader yourself, not a lot of content), not a lot of recognition, on a relatively new platform. With the added bonus of it being harder to access.

  • Is there something like the pirate bay but for direct downloads?
  • As in tor links don't show up on regular search engines (like Google, DDG, etc.) It's how most people find piracy sites.

Also, aren't downloads incredibly slow? I know regular browsing is so I'd imagine downloads would be slower.

  • Is there a place where I can get Nebula content?
  • Hey there, do you mind if you can post what else you want over in the Requests channel? I'll be happy to rip them whenever I'm free.

  • Is there a place where I can get Nebula content?
  • Hi, yes, this is a very good server, no bias whatsoever ๐Ÿ˜Š

We do Originals, Plus, and First content. Podcasts can be requested but I'll have to do those manually. Sometime soon we'll also be doing Curiosity Stream, HD nebula videos (non-exclusive content but higher bitrate than on youtube), and classes (whenever yt-dlp adds support for it.) Plus a bot to automatically do requests :)

I also have a release group there called iDoISO, where we do full ISO rips of 4K and BluRay discs and "lossless" MKVs (basically no encoding whatsoever.) We don't have a lot of releases for them right now (it's pretty pricey even for a few 4Ks) but I've put a lot of time and attention to each release, so please take a look :)

If you have any questions or feedback don't hesitate to reach out to me! (Either here, on Divolt, or over DMs!)

EDIT: oh also we have a discord server if you don't like Divolt, just know that all the links are under b64 and idoiso isn't on it.

  • Is there something like the pirate bay but for direct downloads?
  • Closest thing would be the Usenet, which is paid. (Decently cheap, but still.)

Seedboxes and DMCA ignore VPS's exist, which is how a lot of DDLs and streaming sites live. You can also encrypt it before uploading (although you'll have to decrypt it afterwards.) For archiving, Telegram has 2GB file limits but is free and unlimited total storage.

  • Is there something like the pirate bay but for direct downloads?
  • I wonder why something like that hasn't become a thing and gotten big.

Not only is tor not used by the majority of pirates, it also limits speeds by a lot. Not to mention you can't index onion links in search engines. But I mean, you wouldn't need a VPN with it, so...

  • is this downtime like normal?
  • Well the only possibility is that it's a DNS or VPN issue, cause like Kai said, we haven't had any downtime, let alone one that lasts hours at a time.

  • New projects ideas for me to attempt?
  • If you have dev experience you can get in touch with us over on Divolt :) Otherwise the best way to improve FMHY is to help with the wiki. We have a #to-do channel on our server which is a great starting point.

As for project ideas specifically for FMHY, I don't have any rn. We have a billion backups and projects like Divolt and Lemmy are additive (and really made for the whole community rather than just FMHY.) But maybe some of the other folks here have some ideas.

  • is this downtime like normal?
  • Basically. If you go to a certain website, that's one instance, and if you go to another website (that's also on Lemmy), that's a different one.

Are you sure you're talking about this one (And you're on this site?) Double checked it isn't your own internet? By "down" do you mean some posts don't work, all posts, or you can't access the site at all? Also, are you far from where the server is hosted from, which is Europe?

  • is this downtime like normal?
  • AFAIK this server has had 100% uptime (but I'm not the hoster so I can't say for certain. We definitely never encountered any major downtime or crash.) There are hourly restarts to fix the image service, maybe that's what you're referring to? Those only last a few moments and other instances, like lemmy.world, do it too. (In fact they do it at every 30 minutes, which we've considered doing too)

  • iOS 5.1 gets a jailbreak after ~11 years

Only available for the iPhone 4S for now, with more device support planned. Both released roughly the same time, with the 4S coming out on October 2011, and iOS 5.1 on March 2012.

    Now more personal than ever.

    Usernames are Evolving - Revolt

Revolt is doing the complete opposite of Discord, and is transitioning from unique usernames to discriminators + nicknames. More proof that Revolt is the top chat platform :D

Invidious gets C&D from YouTube [UPDATED]

torrentfreak.com YouTube Orders 'Invidious' Privacy Software to Shut Down in 7 Days * TorrentFreak

The developers of Invidious, a privacy-respecting alternative front-end for YouTube, have received a cease-and-desist notice from YouTube.

TL;DR: YouTube sends a Cease and Desist email to the Invidious team for API abuse (even though they don't use the API.)

    Source

I also want to point out (since nobody else has) that YT has done shenanigans like this in the past. Invidious is not going down without a fight.

    UPDATE

As of 2 weeks ago, Google has begun blocking multiple instances from accessing their services. This also includes my own instance and appears to be done alongside the C&D. (Note: I have not received one yet.) I'm currently playing whack & mole with Google and will be moving between several different servers. Some others are going through IPv6 addresses (which didn't work for me.)

    Divolt Starter Guide

    What is Revolt?

Revolt is an open source alternative to Discord that allows for self-hosting (like for Divolt!)

    What is Divolt?

Divolt is a self-hosted Revolt instance ran by pirates, for pirates. Just like Discord it consists of multiple communities you can be a part of, including FMHY. The chat is also bridged to our private Discord, meaning both communities can communicate with one another easily.

    How do I join?

    1. Register an account on Divolt
    2. Login, then join servers!

    What servers are there?

    • FMHY - Free Media, Heck Yeah!
    • M4D - Movies4Discord Backup.
    • SlavArt - ART. High quality tunes.
    • CrackHub - Software cracking.
    • Gamesdrive - Gamin'.
    • NBG - No Bucks Given.
    • Project Black Pearl - Server for PBP, a FOSS project that aims to unify game sources in one place.
    • iDoISO + Nebula's Essence - ISO and Nebula releases.
    • NQRARBG - A clone and successor to RARBG (currently under development.)
    • One hidden server, if you're worthy, you'll find it. ;)

    Desktop / Mobile apps?

    Notes

    • Divolt is a self-hosted version of Revolt, meaning you need to make an account on Divolt, even if you already have one on Revolt.
    • During signup you can use a fake email, but it will only load with real domains like .gmail.
    • If youโ€™d like to join the FMHY Discord you must be active in our community, or a developer / contributor to one of the projects we have posted in the wiki.
    • If the page wonโ€™t load, try clearing your cache, a different browser, disabling ublock or using incognito.

    Any more stuff?

Check out Awesome Divolt for clients, servers, themes, and more!
