Let's Keep Beehaw Going
  • To anyone looking to donate here is a financial thread made by the admins for this month where they outline where money is going and how much is spent roughly each month (it is a few days old however and donations have increased since then so i would keep that in mind) https://beehaw.org/post/428209

  • Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark
  • From what i understand the karma system was meant to be a way to encourage people to be active early on to drive even more traffic to the site but as it went on it definitely devolved into a popularity contest like you said

  • Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark
  • same here im accually interacting with people instead of just lurking i think the community aspect helps but for me its also thw fact theres less users around so the chances of accually having a decent conversation is higher

  • Going to try Debian 12 when it releases is there anything i should know about Debian in general beforehand?
  • Thanks for the detailed explanation i accually didnt know about the man command makes sense though As for apt and apt-upgrade i didnt accually know apt-upgrade existed but that is good to know as for the shell im not that intimidated by it ive used command prompt plenty of times in windows and when trying other different distros one question i remember getting nvidia drivers installed being somewhat dificult on linux is this still the case or has something changed?

Timeline of total users at the top 10 Lemmy instances
  • it isnt currently possible to migrate users from an instance to another but there is an issue on github about it so maybe it will get implemented at some point as for posts from a deleted instance im not sure maybe someone else can answer that

  • new community idea for a space we can share little ways we're looking to better our real life communities
  • I like the idea and think it would be a really good addition and as alyaza said this has been thought aout on the discord it would definitely be nice to see people helping each other instead of controversy like most social media is filled with

  • How do you usually get new books to read?
  • i rarely buy physical books as i like reading during breaks or when im waiting on something and its not always feasible to have a book with me i buy books when they are available for a price that will not bankrupt me as a book thats 10 dollars is around 50 ron wich in my opinion is far too much especially as i need money for other things otherwise i simply pirate them

  • When things hit the fan on July 1st
  • not that big a shock if you consider the amount of work it is to moderate that kind of thing reddit has shittons of money to make sure illegal things are not on the site unlike instances here that run on donations

  • five more new Beehaw communities!
  • perhaps in the future but from talk in the discord the admins dont want too many comunities to avoid fragmentation if operating systems ever gets too big and there is a need to seperate it more then it will be done

  • Do People Actually Want to Wear a Headset All the Time?
  • For me its not so much that its a gimmick or whatever but that it just looks stupid on your face imagine being in public and seeing someone with a flight recorder strapped to their face i like VR technology and i think as it evolves itl change how we interact with media but this is just not it

  • What new communities would you like there to be created on lemmy instances lets give them something to work with
