Apple’s alien show Invasion returns for season 2 in August
  • I don't think I've heard a single whisper about this show, and I thought I was pretty aware of other sci-fi offerings on Apple TV+ (Severance, For All Mankind, Foundation, etc). I don't mind slow pacing, so maybe I'll give the first season a shot at some point.

  • Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny reminds you how much Hollywood has changed
  • There are a lot of interesting thoughts here about the shift in cultural context across the span of the series. I must say, though, that I was a bit surprised to see the original trilogy designated "aggressively just fine as films" - I've been seeing quite a bit of content over the past few weeks venerating Spielberg &co's absolute mastery of framing, blocking, and editing in service of completely fluent visual storytelling. Here's one example I found earlier this morning: https://youtu.be/ItbCLh4Auoo

  • What book(s) are you currently reading?
  • Recently I seem to have more time to discover books than to actually read them, so I'm near the beginning of Vladimir Nabokov - Pnin while also itching to start Fredric Jameson - The Political Unconscious and Thomas Kuhn - The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.
