What's the Best Strategy for Michigan Primary Vote?
  • Oh I completely agree with you. I don't expect a Left candidate to pop up and take the nomination at all. But I think the more votes candidates like that get, the more viability they have in the future. The more future donations they'll be able to pull in, etc.

  • Hmm I see your point, but don't feel good about it. I'm going to give Biden my vote come November in the general (assuming he's still alive by then) because ya, I wanna see the orange pubs steamrolled too. But god dammit if I'm not tired voting for people that I don't feel represent me. I'm tired of just voting against someone and not for someone.

I honestly don't think Biden losing in a bunch of primaries would even matter, because come election day people are going to do the same thing they did in 2020 and vote against Trump but not for Biden. Trump being loud and shitty is what will drive people to turn out in November, from both sides. We need a hard left candidate that has been a reality TV star because aparently that's what we've become.

  • I definitely share your anger from the 2020 primary. Dems did Bernie dirty because he threatened their status quo. Shitty system all around. I think its still worth voting in though. At least to express dissatisfaction, or throw off opponents. It's something like only 15% of voters turn out for primaries, so technically your voice is like 6 times louder. Shouting into the void? I mean kinda, but eh might as well.

Not sure what the move is here in Michigan in a couple days. Bernie Sanders is my dream candidate. But not an option obviously, so what is the best use of my vote in terms of Game Theory here? Do I vote someone other than Trump on the Republican side of the ticket to make his efforts more difficult? Or vote Uncommitted or another Democrat to communicate my want for a younger / further left leaning president? Or do I just get in line and vote Biden. Someone who I think has done a good job, but not gone far enough. I want someone younger that can connect with my issues, and do even more for the working / middle class. Someone that is younger that will understand younger issues like internet privacy and data protection.

    Whatcha think lemmy?

  • Suuuuuper interesting line of reasoning. I think this opens other questions that can help to clarify and better understand where some of the great filters live. We got to space travel and radio communications with the conditions and resources available to us here on Earth. I've heard scientists speculate as to whether life could develop on cold worlds in oceans of methane, but never heard about what sorts of technologies could be possible on drastically different planets. Maybe life could develop in a very different way but technologies hitting some real ceilings depending on what's available. We see even here on Earth, animals with fantastic intelligence such as dolphins that A) never had an evolutionary pressure to develop tool building extremities and B) didn't have the same access to naturally transformable resources as we did. Understanding where these technological ceilings are based on the resources available on a planet could really inform how many other space capable civilizations are out there. Or at the very least, help us to specify how some of these great filters are arranged.

  • How is it bad faith to suggest not labeling millions of people as pedo who aren't? There's plenty of genuinely human / funny content on YouTube from over the years of stuff that happened on omegle. It sucks that the platform is evaporating. But I agree, if there was a huge problem of pedos and predators that couldn't be controlled closing is probably for the best. People that remember their random adventures on omegle positively and are talking about ways this could've been controlled / avoided aren't pedo sympathizers. They're just nostalgic. No one here is suggesting to fortify a hangout space for pedos. Everyone is trying to keep those people out.
