How will you be tackling the challenges this year?
  • Friendly tip as you go, the nim stdlib documentation is extensive albeit a bit hard to peruse. The index is your friend. And folks on the discord/forum are pretty helpful.

  • How will you be tackling the challenges this year?
  • I have! I think I started using it around this time last year after having started AOC2022 with golang and wanting to wade into other languages. Nim is super versatile and I've enjoyed using it for some toy applications.

  • How will you be tackling the challenges this year?
  • I'll also be using Nim this year!

  • I rent a vps to run fediverse instances. Here's what I've found
  • That's way less than what I pay to vultr for a less powerful VPS to host my own set of services (lemmy, gotosocial, gitea). I gotta find a cheaper host πŸ™ƒ.

  • What is your machine naming scheme?
  • I use futhark runes for my machines and set an ASCII representation of the rune symbol as the /etc/{issue,motd}

  • How did you mess with school computers?
  • Loaded quake on all the computers in a classroom. Which were conveniently arranged to make it impossible for a teacher to see all screens at once. And with no effort we were able to play multi-player matches basically every class. A substitute even joined in one time.

  • What operating system do you use on your main computer?
  • Arch on my laptop and nixos on my server.
