A little hyperbolic, methinks
  • Idk I mean that sounds ideal but I also think once someone has been a blight for all life on the planet for decades it goes a bit beyond being just "someone I disagree with". Curious if, in your mind, there is any hypothetical behavior or line to cross after which advocating murder does become acceptable?

Sometimes I also question if he does actually have loved ones or just sycophants and boot lickers but you never know maybe you are right

  • Eating less beef is a climate solution. Here's why that's hard for some American men
  • That's true, and a big part of why what is possible for everyone varies. There is some silver lining, chicken is cheaper than beef and significantly lower carbon footprint, some vegan options can be very cheap too if there is time to cook.

But yes, for this who have the ability and inclination to vote with wallets, great, with acceptance for others who don't have that option

  • Eating less beef is a climate solution. Here's why that's hard for some American men
  • I totally agree with this notion, everybody should do what they realistically can, and it will look different for everyone. Some can be vegan and it will work out great, others will struggle to give up meat. Some can bike/walk to work everyday, or avoid air travel, and some can't. Anyone doing well 80% of the time is probably doing just fine.

All that said, it is worth remembering that these industries are (mostly) funded by consumers, and while giant corporations are obviously the way bigger issue, consumers have more power than we often give ourselves credit for to restrict those companies. In a hypothetical world where everyone stops eating beef, it isn't like the beef industry continues to pollute. They will directly produce the amount of beef people will buy. Even if everyone has their steak now and then but doesn't make it an every night staple, that alone would already do a lot to limit the emissions of the beef industry. It's not a whole solution, but it is the one that is easiest and most obtainable, because convincing the government to stop subsidizing beef is not on the agenda of any major politicians at least in the states, even if I wish it were.

  • Seriously, what the f*** is keeping Donald Trump in this presidential race?
  • I mean it's definitely an interesting read. I'm just not sure what to actually do with this information. The fundamental problem feels like a generally small bubble, and at times a specific disinterest in venturing outside of it. If anyone's whole worldview is shaped entirely by their tiny rural hometown, it's easy to understand why others with radically different backgrounds feel scary.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't feel like a good enough reason to drag the rest of the country through rigid christofacist moral dogmas and support the industries that prop up those small towns at the expense of the planet as a whole. But as long as those people aren't interested in venturing outside their communities and meeting other different people, im not sure how to convince them of this.

Maybe if the cost of living becomes too untenable in major cities and work from home continues in certain industries rural areas will see more growth and this will improve somewhat? Idk

  • Bluesky has gained a million new users in the last three days.
  • I have a potentially really dumb question: how is mastodon different from the assorted lemmys and such? I originally thought mastodon was just another fediverse instance but now that I think about it I don't think I've seen posts and content from others on a mastodon instance, either on .world or where I am now at .ee. is this just due to defederation with mastodon or is mastodon different in some way that I am missing?

  • Steps without phone?

I am just curious if anyone knows if it is possible to count steps accrued while I didn't have my phone, like on a run for example. Right now I wear a watch that sends step data to Garmin connect and it would be awesome if those steps could be pulled into the app somehow. My phone's internal step counter is a little less reliable and mostly I just leave it at home often.

I think I saw watch compatibility is planned for a later update but wondering if I could just get it to pull from Garmin connect instead of phone internal sensors, basically using that as a liason between watch and this app (I don't know if this makes any sense, I am not tech savvy)

    Really enjoying the app otherwise!

    “Communism bad”
  • While I basically agree with this, I would argue there may be some liberals who just haven't been exposed to actual communism/been too heavily propagandized and seeing the discourse on very left instances could gain some supporters. I guess this specific post comment section is maybe a bad example, but I would venture a guess most leftists were liberals once

  • I believe it is accurate to say rtwp gameplay came before turn based and that turn based RPGs aren't even that old in the grand scheme of video games. I know it's not for everyone but for me personally if it isn't turn based im way less interested. I'm too old for twitch based gameplay and rtwp feels tedious

  • VO2 max go brrrrr
  • This happened for me also when I started but has flat lined since, after about 4 months of gains. I think for me the season is relevant too, easier to maintain high heartrate training in summer when hot out

  • What happened? Take me back
  • That might SOUND like 5x protein, but I am fairly confident there is a pretty minimal amount of protein at all. The beef and cheese sauce are almost entirely fat, cheese is low amount and high moisture, sour cream never had protein to begin with.

  • Cooked
  • Maybe this is overly wishful thinking, but I do think there is enough data analysis on how people vote that it could be real: if a large body of people with a history of voting blue vote in this election and vote blue down the ballot but omit the president, or have a third party for the president instead, then that might actually send a message to the Democrats that they are fucking up their candidate selection badly, and make them at least marginally more likely to cater to the left when choosing candidates in the future.

That said I am not sure I can condone this tactic in good faith in this particular election given the alternative, but part of me feels like the right will perpetually have more and more abhorrent alternatives and there needs to be a line somewhere, and if it's not at genocide then I honestly don't know where it is.

No matter how you look at it all the options are bad. At least Tim being slightly left of Kamala shows Democrats slightly more willing to negotiate with disenfranchised left voters than chasing nebulous farther right independents. Not left enough to condemn genocide though so a very minor distinction
