What were some "bad habits" on reddit that we should try to avoid bringing over here?
  • That's just additional control on the instance and will enrage at least some people because they feel like the maintainer is excercising too much control

  • That's part of the reason why platforms like Reddit took off: they're simple and easy to approach and people don't get overwhelmed at first sight

  • Microsoft is getting rid of the following File Explorer features on Windows 11
  • Trust me, I'd give up on Windows too. If only Linux had better app compatibility; I need to depend on Microsoft Office a lot, and anticheats break games on Linux

  • Google suggesting a garbage sellout article with bad advice. Not like it's hard enough for newcomers to learn about tech or anything.
  • It's funny how the author calls a ZenBook 14X as a gaming laptop, complains that the fan is too loud and he has to turn down the settings, and still claims it is a better alternative to a PC into which he failed to install an i9 into because he forgot to read the documentation. Massive cope

Literally the biggest cope ever

  • I own a gaming laptop: it's a decent midway point for someone who does only occasional gaming. If I did anything more intensive I would much rather go with a PC

  • Future Publishing somehow consistently manages to convert every good tech news site into SEO-optimized crap with the most boring UI known to man. I do not trust any of those sites anymore

Every day, I feel happier that I use Windows 10

  • Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.
  • My take: The people who were in support of the protest were mostly the 3rd party client users and a lot of them left after the protest, leaving normal users, like myself, who are there for the content only, to vote for the sub to remain open in order to view the content again

  • AI art is terrible and destroys human creativity. OP worked hard to make the mascots himself and you think you can do something that's better with a bunch of words on a screen? Please do not

  • Revolt, free and open-source alternative to Discord, has hit 100,000 registered users.
  • I despise subreddits who say "we are moving to discord". The two platforms are nothing alike and never will be

  • Quick, make as many Magazines as possible!
  • Interesting, m/MAGAZINENAME links don't work.

  • Did you reuse your Reddit name or create a new one?
  • I did not. Sometime last year I changed my username to this across all platforms, but Reddit wouldn't let me change it.

  • Revolt is fairly young in comparison to Matrix. A lot of features including E2EE will be implemented in the future. Also, Revolt actually does have bridges and an ecosystem of WIP third-party clients as well.

  • Revolt is not fedi. You can host your own server but you'll need a seperate build of their client to communicate to that server and seperate accounts
