Welcome to the Lemmy sub

As more and more redditors are migrating from the site, I wanted to set up a community page.

As some of you may recall, I was the primary active mod for r/SpringfieldIL for over a decade until we were ambushed by trolls and subsequently lead to my account being banned (after I repeatedly reached out to reddit admins to help, btw).

Any who. Before the trolls started attacking our community sub, the sub was fairly lenient on posts and comments.

Id like that to be the way things are here as well.

The rules will be kept to a bare minimum and most follow common sense.

  1. No hate speech
  2. No witch hunts
  3. No spam or scams
  4. No sex or drug solicitation
  5. No spreading of false information (different opinions are fine but blatant false information is not).

Everything else is pretty much fine.

A point though that I want to discuss is that with our current country in the midst of a democratic collapse, be aware that there may be frequent political posts (local and national but mostly focused on local) and they will generally be in support of removal of the current administration.

Firstly, Lemmy is designed a bit better to reduce troll accounts but I will continue to monitor the sub and remove troll comments and ban users who are trolls.

As for people who are maga or current Trump supporters.

If this restriction on your "freedom of speech" does not suit you then maybe try the maga subreddit on reddit for this city. I believe it is r/springfieldillinois You are sure to find others that share your views there.

Shift from Reddit
  • Maybe ask the mods to start creating a pinned comment on every post asking people to migrate here .

And maybe offer some instructions because it took me a bit to figure out how to get on the right server and set it up.
