Oregon State University Permaculture Course (Free on YouTube)
Hey y'all,
I stumbled across this free extensive course on permaculture by Oregon state university on YouTube. Thought y'all might be interested.
Hope you have a good time with the seeds 😉. Glad to know they're not escaping outside of your balcony. Pretty good seed haul you got there.
1.) Your automatic watering setup is DOPE.
2.) Hope the morning glory doesn't escape. I have a problem with it in my garden and I didn't ever plant it to begin with...
It's better than no place becoming an ecotopia.
Of course, but which do you think would be the spark that ignites the rest?
Despite the bad news, it's good to know that there's still people out there that care and are actually doing something about it.

Whoops, I meant a community, not an instance. My bad.
Wait, what's the difference between an instance and a community?
Anybody interested in a druidism community on here?
I'm thinking about making a druidism instance community to discuss the practice and share stories and the likes. I'm not strictly opposed to it being a more general nature spirituality instance, depends on what y'all are thinking.
Anybody interested in joining and/or modding one?
Edit: I meant a community, not an instance. Got my Lemmy vocabulary mixed up. My apologies.
Edit 2: The community has been made. Go to !nature_spirituality
Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum)
Boneset is a pretty common "weed" in the eastern US. It's easy to find in wet, disturbed habitats.
Uses:
-Fever
-Anti inflammation
-Colds
Do NOT consume in large amounts. It has mild liver toxicity and thus should just be used when needed.
You're so right about Ms. Frizzle. She'd be the perfect teacher in a Solarpunk world.
Agreed about the frequent field trips. It's more important to get out than people think, plus it helps people realize learning isn't just for in the classroom.
How would you envision Solarpunk schools and education?
This can be the way things are taught, who are the teachers, what a school day would look like, where classes are taught, what things what look like, etc.
Fish Emulsion Fertilizer: a great resource for organic farming
I use Fish Emulsion Fertilizer a lot in my own garden. It's organic, and most importantly WORKS. You typically use it for plants bearing fruit (such as tomatoes, watermelon, squash) and not leafy vegetables (spinach, Swiss Chard, etc). It makes the fruits a lot tastier from my experience. I typically buy it from my local farmer's CO-OP, but it's not an uncommon find elsewhere.
Here's a helpful guide on using it: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/using-fish-emulsion.htm
In a recent post, we delved into the concept of an ecological civilization, which envisions a new era of humanity, one that prioritizes human and ecological flourishing alike. Perhaps it shouldn’t have surprised us, but what most captivated readers were the images. They offered enchanting, evocative...

This is a good introductory article for Solarpunk. If someone asks you "What is Solarpunk?" this is a good place to start.
Woah, I had no idea. The nobility can be such dumbasses.
Love what you're doing dude. You've got all kinds of cool ideas. Keep up the good work!
LMAFO
You mentioned working based vs military based in animal training. That's what I'm referring to. Could you explain what it is and why it's bad?
Underappreciated comment
A carrier pigeon seems outdated and unreliable. There are important things such as medication that would need to be reliably delivered to people.
Could you elaborate on what a point express is? A quick Google search didn't get me any helpful english-language answers.
Solarpunk Spirituality
I've been thinking about Solarpunk spiritualities/philosophies. Not gonna use the word religion here to avoid the negative connotations of that.
I've been practicing druidism way before I ever discovered solarpunk, and I feel like the two are very compatible with each other. Love of nature, do no harm to others, fluid and evolving, open to interpretation.
Any other ideas about already existing spiritual philosophies that are compatible with solarpunk?
Love this. Could you give me your animal discipline spill? I've never thought about it before and am intrigued.
Okay so something that's slowly dying in rural America is the presence of specialty stores and craftspeople. Before dollar general and Walmart killed most of it, there were separate/mom n' pop bakeries, pharmacies, blacksmiths (we could modernize that concept with a technological repair person to fix broken or malfunctioning parts), and tractor/feed supplies. Some of these still exist in rural America obviously but they are declining. Bring back specialization and apprenticeship.
In the center of your village could be a decently sized community garden, with small greenhouses scattered throughout. It acts sort of like a central park or courtyard. Also, rooftop gardens!
Maybe some sort of outdoor community center?
