Spurs to re-hire Rob Mackenzie as chief scout
Thanks to @[email protected] for the heads-up.
> In a nutshell Rob Mackenzie is responsible for bringing in both Mahrez and Kanté during his time as a head scout at Leicester. At Spurs Mackenzie was responsible for bringing in Son. Sounds like a great re-hire for Spurs.
Ah, I see 👍
Son is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. And one of the most hard working too - did you know he endured all last season carrying an agonising sports hernia? He didn't get the operation he needed until the season ended because he didn't want to let the side down, even though it was very clearly affecting his form. Incredibly well deserved. A true Prem hero. Whoever downvoted this: you know nothing about football. Miserable gits.
I can only see any of those clubs going for him if their current manager fails miserably. Of those, I can only see Tuchel at Bayern as vulnerable at the moment. Bayern have stiff competition this season and coming anything less than first for them is a massive failure.
I meant in terms of profile "shape". Here are three comparisons:
Bellingham v Maddison
Bellingham v Gündogan
Maddison v de Bruyne
See what I mean? Of course, different managers will have these players perform their role in different ways depending on their squad and tactics, so they will inevitably look different "on the eye". E.g. look at the way Maddison is free to drop really deep in some games to act as a pivot and playmaker, which is something KDB doesn't really do (Maddison's season heatmap is building a deep left MF hotspot as a result). But I was talking more about their skills profiles and fit for certain roles. Of course, they're not the same - I was just pointing out similarities in profile shape.
But agree that the Maddison and Bellingham comparison is very interesting. I wonder if Southgate can find a way for them to work together in the England squad? When they played together against Ukraine, they just got in each others' way.
Very different players stylistically. Bellingham much more like, say, İlkay Gündoğan whereas Maddison is more like Kevin de Bruyne.
Clearly some rattled fans who don't like Spurs 😂
Very interesting. If he can keep it up and if he can win something with Spurs, he'll be one of the greats. Unfortunately, as Kane showed, you can be one of the greatest players in the world, but if you don't win anything, you tend to get overlooked by the football awards givers and GOAT list compilers.
