Videos only plays for a split second

I've been using Revanced since it was just the CLI app and for the most part it has worked well for me(until recently). I have had an issue where the patching process finishes with no errors and installs fine, but when I open Youtube and try to play a video it stops immediately. I see the video advancedby a frame or two and hear a split second of the sound, but it stops immediately. I'm using the most up to date version of revanced with the suggested youtube apk version. I have root, but I have tried installing with and without root and tried with and without microg. Ideally I'd prefer not to use microg, because it consumes a lot of battery. I've tried building it many times with the default patches and even just the adblocking patches and still can't find any combination that works.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Best Lemmy client for Android?
  • Yeah, I do agree that it feels a little out of place on Android, but currently I have been using it because it still feels polished and I haven't had many bugs with it. Lemmy clients in general are in their early days and many are quite rough around the edges. I've had a lot of bugs with most of them.

Connect for Lemmy has a Material You style to it and feels like at home on Android. It uses your current Material color scheme and feels a bit similar to Sync for Reddit.

  • Is there a way to make something like multireddits?
  • This is one of my most wanted features, too. It is especially needed on the fediverse, because there are so many duplicate communities from different servers. It would be really nice to be able to unify those fragmented communities into one feed.

It seems that the developers of Lemmy are hard at work trying to improve the product. The huge increase in users and traffic has shown some of its weak points under load. I think they are focusing on scalability and performance issues right now, so it might take some time to get to new user-facing features.

About two weeks ago they posted this: https://join-lemmy.org/news/2023-06-17_-_Update_from_Lemmy_after_the_Reddit_blackout

...which sort of touches on their progress and on improvements.

  • Gary Numan - We Are Glass
  • I've always wanted to see him live, but things always got in the way. One of these days I will, I hope. Does he play much of his older stuff or does he usually stick to the latest albums? I like both, but it would be nice to hear the breadth of his work.

    Asteroid City (2023)
  • I loved it!

    Spoilers Ahead:

    spoiler

The fact that the sets were supposed to be fictitious/play-sets gave him an excuse to push his style into an almost cartoonish extreme. I enjoyed the nested levels of storytelling. There was a lot of humor, some of which was more outright than in his previous films. There was still plenty of more subtle and dry humor too. The eye candy was taken to new extremes with hyper-saturated colors. The framing/compositions, transitions, etc were delightful as always. I think the story was quite strong with a good and clever ending.

Some fun things I noticed: When the cowboy dude walks there are spur noises, even though he had no spurs. In many of the black and white shots, the characters eyes have a subtle red tint, I suppose to draw your eyes into their faces.

Did anyone else think the space alien looked like Salad Fingers (a reference for the OG Newgrounds crowd). https://imgur.com/a/mJNPDCR

  • Asteroid City (2023)
  • I'm seeing it tonight and looking forward to it. I usually enjoy Wes Anderson, but I realize that it isn't for everyone. Personally, I really enjoy the careful framing of all the shots, the colorful scenes, quirky tone and dry humor.

  • June Feature Drop + Android 13 QPR3 rolling out
  • They have a feature where you can hold your palm up when you are ready to start the countdown timer to take the picture. It could be useful for group shots when there isn't an extra person to take the picture for you. That way you don't need to rush getting everyone in frame and ready.

  • Why do I need to click Subscribe twice?
  • I have some that are also indefinitely pending. In my case, they seem to be on servers that aren't federated with the server my account is on. All communities on Beehaw.org are doing this. I am still able to post on them, but I'm not sure if they are showing on my front age or not.

  • EU votes to mandate removable batteries in smartphones in a landslide; no more glued together junk!
  • I agree that is isn't really necessary for most people, but I do know quite a few people who use it because they know the phone will be safe. My partner uses her phone in the pool all the time. I'm often dripping wet after coming in from surfing, even after drying off with a towel. It is nice to be able to check my phone without worrying I'm going to mess it up.

I'm not saying it is a feature every phone needs, but it is something that some people use. I'm all for replaceable batteries and would like to see them more available. They will improve the longevity of devices as long as they aren't damaged in other ways.
