We Need Downvotes on Lemmy.one
  • Yeah!

The thing is others can downvote you from other instances. Just you can't.

I don't know if lemm.ee takes the downvotes into account for the score, or ignores them. But from other instances you can downvote the same post or comment.

  • I have 10 lemmy instance accounts. Am I doing something wrong?
  • I too have a few, had to move around because I don't agree with the rules.

For example I almost settled on lemmy.one, but unfortunately they do not show downvotes (nor allow you to downvote). (I cannot fathom why many people like this - probably they want to comment but don't want to criticize.)

Oh well, I suppose a good thing is that no one can downvote this comment no matter if they disagree, think that this is offtopic (which I hope this is not), etc. /s

Anyway I now settled with lemm.ee if you want to know - so far so good.

  • Oh crap. Lemmy.one doesn't have downvotes - this is bad.

Without downvotes it is not easy to know which comments are controversial. I don't want to join another tiktok or instagram, I want to join something informative and thus a proxy of the value of the information (while not perfect) is critical.

I thought it was community specific, but looks like I can't downvote even on other instances.

I need to look for an alternative now.

  • In my experience so far, Lemmy.one has been the best. Fast, safe, responsive, and has a friendly community.

Edit: With a huge flaw that I discovered, that it does not allow you to downvote. I mean you can downvote the same post from other instances. Anyway this led me to lemm.ee. I don't know if that would be the final one I stick to, but so far it's looking good.

  • +1 also if you join beehaw, you don't get access to some instances such as lemmy.world.

They "defederated" them to create a "safe space", because lemmy.world does not ask you to write an essay on a set of questions (like beehaw does) when you join.
