Ex-Americans are suing America to get back some of the money they paid to renounce their citizenship
  • If they remain US citizens, they will have to pay US capital gains tax on the sale of their home in the place they now live. They'd also be liable for US federal income tax. This would be on top of whatever taxes they're liable for in the country they moved to.

If they have renounced their citizenship and are no longer resident in the US, then they're (broadly) no longer liable for US taxes, including US capital gains on the sale of their home.

Renouncing citizenship is expensive, but massively cheaper than the taxes they'd pay as non-resident US citizens. I'd assume their income had come in under the threshold or something, so the matter only came up when they wanted to sell their home.

  • Wired has retracted its article "How Google alters search queries"
  • Am all in on this stroke as well.

  • It’s trans adults, too: GOP candidates now back trans medical restrictions for all ages
  • Nothing is more delicious to conservatives than a small, powerless group who do not fit into the so-called social norms to attack as a scapegoat. Perfect for distracting their supporters from all of the fuckery and wanton neglect that conservative parties pursue, and perfect for whipping up emotional fervour in the mind of those who cling to conservatism out of fear of difference.

Other groups & causes which conservatives tend to target may willing to jettison the needs of a tiny group for their own ends if they can get their own ends met, and fracturing solidarity is incredibly useful, if not essential, to conservative goals.

As such, people who are seeking treatment for gender dysphoria are the perfect target for the GOP to rail against.

  • What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?
  • Don't even care about SEO fuckery, if the damn things would respect my search queries.

Quotes, operands & other modifiers seem to have been straight up jettisoned.

  • Badger anyone?
  • Pfft, looped that thing for hours. After a time my brain just began conjuring other sounds out of it.

  • What are some easy but fun things to make by hand? or ways to not look at a screen as much?
  • Crochet. Lot of things to make which are small so the hobby is very portable.

  • PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote
  • If I boost something on kbin, where does it get boosted to?

On Mastodon I'll sometimes boost requests for help/info, or posts which contain info I think others would find useful, but can't imagine wishing to do that on a discussion board.

  • Should we be using hashtags and mentions more?
  • So long as there is an option for users to hide them when reading...

Probably also best if they're added optionally via a separate box, rather than included in the main body. Down the road, it would be cool if that box could be used to find suggestions (so the writer can find any already in use which fit).

They can have a lot of utility for those who like them when used judiciously & sparingly, but too many people seem to have a bit of a tagspam habit.

  • Getting constantly logged out?
  • Worked for me. Thank you.

  • The last time you've been trolled by your own body ?
  • Damn, you're lucky the doctor knew what was up & didn't send you away with a Dx of panic attacks.

  • Reddit is a dead site running
  • Agreed. Same with Twitter.

  • Reddit is a dead site running
  • Permanently Deleted

  • FYI: Lemmy.world and other instances were hacked. Beehaw.org took itself down to mitigate risks
  • Tbf, there are far more pressing reasons for distrusting Tankies... Instances getting hacked is for sure aggravating, but it isn't the gulag-backed paranoid ultra-corrupt authoritarian hellhole they so admire and wish to expand globally.

  • YSK: Simplewall is a free tool to have more control over your internet on your desktop. (For Windows)
  • LittleSnitch if you're on MacOS, though I gather Apple has been caught overriding users' rules to phone home, so you may want to combine it with other measures such as a DNS manager.

  • Reddit demands moderators remove NSFW labels, or else
  • Hoping any that are still staging protests are doing it to keep the mess visible to remaining users, current staff & potential investors. Reddit cannot retain any one of those without the other two.

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • Idk but that bunny is too thick already, so y'all keep those gods imaginary tyvm or there's gonna be gnawing & drooling & eventually acceptance followed by the melting down of cocoa-based graven images.

    Or was it craven?

    Idk.

  • What is your favourite coat hanger?
  • The edge of the bed?

Otherwise, them fancy padded ones are the only type narrow enough for jackets unless I use children's hangers.

The kind with clips on a bar are great for trousers/shirts & ideally the kind where the bar can swing out & with soft lining on the clips.

Prefer if the head (or hook bit?) swivels, but wire hangers are easy to bend & have other uses so I like to keep some to hand. They can also be bent to fit my jackets & padded with old cloths if necessary.

  • 'Rate limit exceeded;' Twitter down for thousands of users worldwide
  • Twitter & Reddit have both been incredibly useful platforms for raising awareness of all kinds of issues and causes which are anathema to conservative goals. People have been exposed to ideas & events without ever needing to seek those out.

The right-wing failed at creating their own networks and have nothing to offer to ordinary people besides paranoia, so the next best thing is neutralising avenues of enlightening information.

Elon's demented & clueless, but he & Huffman are very useful idiots for the rest of their class.
