Three months with the System76 Pangolin
  • Not sure about the laptops, but the keyboard is nice. My guess would be that the percentage of returns will likely be similar to lenovo but they have logistics covered in most countries. S76 should simply not sell in countries with prohibitively expensive return costs.

  • Was Fedora always so unstable?
  • I'm using fedora as my work system, because I have a relatively new laptop that needs the new kernels. Haven't experienced anything you're describing. Are you on fedora regular or on sliverblue (the immutable version)? If you're having issues running the newest kernel, follow the fedora documented way to build and run your own. I did just that when needed a prerelease kernel and it worked out fine. I usually upgrade to a new release by the end of the cycle, so that the new version had 6 months to mature. I never immediately upgrade.

  • A Reddit User Admitted To Pirating a Movie 12 Years Ago. Movie Studios Want To Unmask Him.
  • Its a surprise to me that a reddit post or any kind of random text blurb can be used as an admission of anything. What if the guy simply says I made all that up for fun? There is no requirement for text written on the internet to be under oath. Edit: fixed spelling oauth -> oath ;)

  • What do people think about advertising like this on lemmy? Should it be allowed? Could it be stopped?
  • I actually think its OK, its just like any other account. So simply block them and all is good. Businesses need platforms too. If you dont like that business advertising to you block them. The difference to the big social media giants is that you can't block them cuz they pay them. Also, a bad ad will have significant less reach in lemmy/masto.

  • They have been making a profit on YT for years already. This isn't to cover the server cost, its to increase the bottom line after all competition was crushed by them. Also, I remember a time with unobtrusive ads that were fine and not an issue, unfortunately for the past 2 years or so they're pushing more and more ads lately doubling up on them as well. Clearly people - just like me - start fighting back and stop them from abusing with massive amounts of unwanted content.

  • Does anyone feel like the Internet is alive again?
  • This! Yes, you're absolutely right. Its the new gen that's never seen proper blinking warez sites that have OK buttons floating around so you can't click em... Joking aside, fediverse is awesome.

  • Pop!_OS officially supports Lemmy as Reddit alternative
  • Thanks for sharing this link. That clarified it nicely. I think its a bit odd considering they literally stopped approving new accounts at the same time as defederating. But again, they seem to have a clear vision in mind for all of this and that's fine. On the flip side, this disqualified them from any large support community that might want to migrate over as the reach is going to be limited. Mastodon has the same issue with people asking to defederate the main instance all the time...
