Can excessive jarring or vibration damage mechanical watches?
  • Thanks for your detailed response! These are all good things to keep in mind. I guess it really comes down to risk vs. reward. There's not really a specific benefit to me of wearing a watch while biking, it's more of a convenience thing (I'll likely be wearing my watch before and after my commute). Maybe it's better to keep the watch in a bag, where the shock is less direct (through my body and the bag), whereas on my wrist the shocks are fairly direct from the handlebars.

  • Starfield’s 30fps frame rate is “a choice,” God of War dev says
  • Unless the PC version is also locked to 30 fps, then I have a hard time believing this is the case. It seems more likely that it’s just a matter of the complexity of the world and visuals that make it harder to push more than 30 fps.

  • Can excessive jarring or vibration damage mechanical watches?

I bike as my primary form of commute / transportation, and whenever I hit a pothole or go over some particularly rough patches of road I worry that overtime this could damage the watch. Anyone have any insight into this? I did a bit of research and it seems like many watches these days have some sort of shock-resistance in the form of Incabloc or other technologies. But then I see posts like this which are worrying...

    Armored Core: VaatiVidya vs. FightingCowboy
  • Yeah, I'm not sure either. To me, the loss of resources on death and the bonfire system are also really big parts of a "souls-like," so without these two, I'm leaning more towards souls-influenced, than strictly souls-like.

What do people use to track their reading?

As title. Even better if whatever you use also helps with recommendations! I’ve been mostly using Goodreads, but Bookwyrm looks like a neat decentralized alternative. Does anyone have any experience with it?

It sounds like CD Projekt is rolling right into the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel when Phantom Liberty is finished
  • I’m crossing my fingers hoping they’ll eventually have the option for 3rd-person game play, similar to Skyrim (and Starfield!). It feels like a waste to spend time collecting cool clothing and armor, as well as customizing our character, only to see them occasionally in a mirror.

    Armored Core: VaatiVidya vs. FightingCowboy

FightingCowboy: "I don't know who the dude was that looked first saw this and said it was going to be souls-like, but you gotta stop doing drugs, man."

VaatiVidya: "I'm curious, what do you see. Armored Core, or Souls? ... No one can deny, there is a lot of souls influence in this."

This is partially tongue-in-cheek since even FightingCowboy admits later that some elements of the gameplay (e.g. the speed and deliberate movement) is similar to souls, but I found watching these two videos back to back pretty.

Are posts submitted from kbin.social visible on lemmy.ml?
  • That's possible! I thought that could be the issue. I was a bit confused because it looks like "posts" are put in the "microblog" category on kbin which I thought loosely corresponds to Mastadon-style posts. But maybe I'm wrong...

Found this on r/apple on Reddit. Also a nice exposition: https://daringfireball.net/linked/2023/06/09/apollo-reddit-demise.

Are posts submitted from kbin.social visible on lemmy.ml?

Specifically, I'm trying to post (an image) to [email protected] from my account on kbin.social. The post shows up on kbin.social, but when I go to https://lemmy.ml/c/boston, it doesn't seem to be there. Is there something special I need to do to ensure it's viewable?
