What Android app should I use to browse Lemmy?
  • My only complaint is it's a little too easy to click on the sub instead of the title, other than that Jerboa has been great.

  • Moving away from RHEL based distros, whats good ?
  • I've used debian on and off since the late 90s, what stands out about bookworm? They've been mostly the same to me, not that that's a bad thing.

  • good ubuntu based distro?
  • Yikes. Was this ever resolved? That was from march last year.

  • Is the out-of-the-box quality of desktop-focused Linux distros declining recently?
  • On the other hand if you grab the Pop OS nvidia iso, I bet it'll just work. Had no issues with Mint either, other than having to install the driver. Based on recent installs I've done with a 3080.

  • Eye watering
  • Wait, are you saying you work at Microsoft and they let you use Linux?

  • New to Linux - is Pop!_OS for me?
  • I put Pop!_OS on a laptop for my (elderly) mum and she used it for years, never had any issues, every now and then I'd tell it to update to the new version and everything was just fine. In the same time period I would have had to fix a windows install several times.

  • I would say tell him, it might suck but another aspect is your wife might want to find her biological father in the future. It would be weird to do that without telling the man who raised her I think.

  • GNOME Wayland vs. X.Org Performance For Radeon & NVIDIA Gaming On Ubuntu 23.04
  • Discord normally (I say normally because I’ve just opened Discord right now to try to replicate it, and can’t - it might be fixed, or it may just need time to reoccur again) has this odd issue where there’s a huge latency when typing, so much to the point where characters start getting completely dropped, making what I can only describe as “alphabet soup” in the input field

This was the deal breaker for me, I use Discord every day, and this isn't a bug you can just deal with.

  • How the beehaw defederation affects us
  • Seems like they're just using the wrong software? A private forum is more in line with what they want it seems.

  • Could federation be a turn-off for more 'mainstream' users?
  • You can see their content, but they wont see anything you contribute to it. I just unsubscribed from any beehaw communities so I stop seeing them.

  • concerning repeat posts showing for DAYS

This bothers me a fair bit, I had a post about someone using comic sans as their programming font as the top post for days. Someone's wacky font choices are just not that interesting I'm sorry.

  • After the blackout...
  • Same, on reddit it felt like someone was just waiting for you to post so they could pick it apart.

  • What was your first distribution?
  • RedHat in the mid-late 90s here too. It wasn't a great time for the linux desktop haha. I think I used afterstep or windowmaker back then. RPM hell was bad and hosed my system enough that Debian was like a savior with apt-get. Never really looked back from debian based systems since.

  • I hate battle royale games
  • It wasn't ruining my life or anything, my "rage" is just swearing a bit, but they pick up on tone etc. So if I notice a game gets me like that, I just wont play it. It's not exactly fun when they're like that anyway.

  • I hate battle royale games
  • I stopped playing any game that makes me rage, because my dogs react as if I'm angry with them - since it's just me and them in the room, obviously I must be mad with them.

  • Redditors, how do you like Lemmy?
  • Having to make a new account because I wanted to see NSFW on another instance was kind of a mood killer. Not sure how that could be done better but I really don't want to be making other accounts.
