Secular Buddhist Tradition - for the non-theistic who are seeking a spiritual community

Secular Buddhism “Secular Buddhism is a unique approach to the Buddha’s teachings aimed at clarifying and demystifying them by lifting them out of their presumed religious, mystical, and cultural context.” ~ Venerable Tarpa Explore our SBT Social Media Youtube Whatsapp Facebook Instagram Linkedin Sp...

Hello all,

So I thought I would share this here for anyone who may be seeking community. SBT is a virtual Sangha founded by Ven. Tenzin Tarpa, a monk in the Tibetan Gelug tradition, with the distinction of being nominally secular in their approach.

I am a member, though I don't meet with the group very much because of some baggage attached to my relationship with group practice, even a secular one (I'm an ex-Hare Krishna... suffice to say that damage was done).

Still, I am very much in support of their work, they have daily meditations and weekly classes, if someone here could benefit from that, I thought I would share.

GOP presidential candidates of color walk a 'tightrope' as they discuss race
  • The fact that Vivek Ramaswamy honestly believes that today's GOP will vote for someone named Vivek Ramaswamy is a contender for the most oblivious take of the election cycle so far.

As an aside... How could an Indian American be anti-diversity and supportive of "Restoring America's National Identity?" Has no one told him that's code for White Supremacy?

Edit: Upon reviewing the rest of his campaign site, holy crap this dude is the worst. I want more diversity in politics. I want Indian Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and other POC to represent our nation, including the presidency. But... no, not like this.

  • The indictment describes Trump showing classified documents to unauthorized people. So why wasn't he charged with dissemination? Possibly because more charges are coming in a different venue.
  • That's possible. My impression is that from the audio alone, it's not clear that he allowed others to actually read the documents. He seems to be showing them to others, but it'd be difficult to prove from the audio alone.

What is clear, however, is that he knew he had the documents, he knew they were classified, he knew he had not declassified them, and he knew that he couldn't do it anymore. He lied repeatedly about these things, and to my knowledge, that's the crux of the case against him. I'm certainly no legal expert, though.

  • How do you Haiku?
  • I wrote a haiku
In the dada style, but it's
    A little creepy

    ...

This is a true story. I compose dadaist poetry (I use a method similar to Burroughs' cut-up method, so phrases rather than single words, usually) and sometimes I do haikus. I composed a random haiku for this prompt but it came out much darker than I anticipated, so I wrote the above one the old fashioned way, and I'll share that instead.

  • I have a confession to make... I code in Comic Sans
  • Comic Code has ligatures, but it's not free. Still $30 well spent for me. https://tosche.net/fonts/comic-code

  • I have a confession to make... I code in Comic Sans
  • I love Comic Mono. I use Comic Code - it's not free but it does support ligatures, which was worth it to me. The legibility boost is excellent.

  • Intel’s New Open Source Mono Font is Pretty Decent
  • You'll have to pry Comic Code from my cold dead hands!
