/kbin quick March update
  • I'm definitely in the minority of this. And I'm not saying that anybody else feels this way. But it's been kind of nice with how slow kbin.social updates the hot section. It's definitely made it so that way I consume way less news. And I'm not checking My phone is much. Not saying you should stay that way, just saying that it's been an interesting benefit for me personally.

  • Why do US teachers have to ask parents to bring basic school supplies?
  • My partner is a teacher and we spend around $200 a month just on snacks for their classroom (snacks have to be individually packaged, and there's 36 kids per class, so that's 72 snacks a day, Because the kids have a morning snack and an afternoon snack.) Even with donors, choose PTA and other groups. We just know that there's a certain amount of our income each month that's going to go too supporting her classroom. It sucks but we have accepted it, because by us not doing that the kids are just going to suffer.

  • Honda built a powered chair to zoom around theme parks while wearing an AR headset.
  • There's a really cool episode of the podcast Factually touching on what you're talking about.

(Side note, I've never seen this website but I really dig that it has question and answer summaries on the bottom. That was super cool.)

Edit: also, as somebody who is disabled who can't lean forward without intense pain, these wheelchairs would be hell.

  • Portland, OR police decide a ballot measure to establish an Accountability Board that passed overwhelmingly in 2020 doesn't fit their style; plan to submit their own measure to weaken & revoke it.
  • These are the same cops that were going around in unmarked vans picking up protesters in 2020. Fucking PPB is a bunch of white supremacist, white nationalist, alt-right bastards. There's even an article about how they had snipers on the roofs during the protest, and gave shelter to the proud boys, and false reports about a shooting where a guy shot five protesters. War crime Wheeler and the entire PPB need to be held accountable for their actions.

  • can anyone recommend a website that will return ACTUAL useful results from Amazon?
  • To add to your metaphor. The grocery store has also collected enough data on you to know exactly how much you'd be willing to pay for eggs versus how much your neighbor would be willing to pay for eggs. So they show you and your neighbor two different egg prices when you get to the cooler.

  • Awesome to see a Eugene community page set up!

It's really nice to see that Eugene already has something set up for an easy transition from Reddit. The Eugene subreddit was where I got pretty much all my information about what was going on in Eugene. So knowing that I can still do that over here without having to deal with reddit's bullshit anymore, it's just awesome.

What are you currently reading, and general thoughts so far?

Hey there, I am curious what everyone is reading and how you are feeling with it. I started demon copperhead yesterday, made it about 70 pages in and decided to read the first book in the chthulu CaseBooks. It's a kinda retelling of Sherlock Holmes but with a Lovecraft quist.

I am digging it so far, about 50% through and it's a fun ride.

So what are you all reading?

Is there a way to block people or specific magazines so we don't have to see their comments or posts? One thing I really enjoyed about the app I'm leaving is that I can just block users who were annoy

Is there a way to block people or specific magazines so we don't have to see their comments or posts? One thing I really enjoyed about the app I'm leaving is that I can just block users who were annoying or I didn't want to see content wise. Is there a way to do that on kbin?
