case or not to case?
  • I use the Rhinoshield carbon SolidSuit and it's worked great on my Pixel 6 since I got the phone at release. The Dbrand grip has looked tempting, but I don't have a need to get another case as this just works and works well for me.

  • What app does everyone use for weather?
  • I typically will use the Google at a glance widget on my Pixel 6 home screen for general use and then added a Weather Underground widget on my home screen that is set up to monitor my home weather station. I have been trying out Weather Today and really like it's look.

I also utilize The Weather Channel and WeatherBug primarily as a consistency with the apps my office on the other side of the country uses for scheduling any outside weather dependent jobs in my area.

I also just a couple of days ago downloaded the FOSS app Weatherian to try out but honestly haven't had a chance to really check it out yet.

  • What is a good hobby/skill that most people should give a try, and why so?
  • Agreed! I bought an SDR dongle on a whim, set it up on a raspberry pi and built a homemade spider antenna with some PVC pipe and old coax I had on hand. I started tracking aircraft with it using an easy walkthrough for setup from FlightAware. I can see and track planes from 220 miles away.

The fact I got that setup impressed myself, so I bought another SDR dongle, built a second antenna and am tracking boats/ships with it.

  • Pixel 6 reboots on Android Auto disconnection
  • I will look into that, thank you for the suggestion. The random reboots are annoying, but the Bluetooth call swaps to my watch are super inconvenient and a pain to deal with, especially when I'm on a call with a customer troubleshooting when it decides to do it.

  • What podcasts do you recommend?
  • I am fairly new to podcasts, but have a few I have begun listening to. I'm trying to find ones that are ~60 minutes and under so I can fit a whole episode in during one way of my typical commute.

And my most recent (a couple of days ago) is Midnight Facts for Insomniacs.

  • So why do you have a Pixel?
  • I had a Galaxy S7 years ago and really disliked the phone, so changed over to a Pixel 2XL as my first Google phone. I absolutely loved the 2XL, and still would be using that phone to this day, but end of support and security updates caused me to move to the Pixel 6. I would have attempted to go to another OS with the 2XL, but... Verizon bootloader lock. The 6 I bought direct from Google so I will no longer have that problem.

The call filtering and overall experience with the 2XL is what kept me in the Pixel line. After experiencing the Pixel 6, I am still partially liking that 2XL better some. I take photos of equipment labels and motor data plates for work and the fonts are pretty small and the 2XL camera did a way better and consistent job of being able to focus on the text than this Pixel 6. The 2XL also never had Bluetooth connection issues and random disconnects like this Pixel 6, or the random reboots. And then there was the awesome rear fingerprint reader on the 2XL. I still miss that phone sometimes.

  • Pixel 6 reboots on Android Auto disconnection
  • Yes, when I unplugged from the car while using Android Auto, it rebooted.

I have randomly had the phone ask for the pin after a reboot without even being in my car that day, and I thought that this is what was happening until I actually saw it go into a reboot in my hand the moment I unplugged it from the car/Android Auto.

It may still be doing it without Android Auto being connected, but it certainly did on at least a couple of occasions.

I did a factory reset about 5 days prior to the June update. I've witnessed this happen once prior to the factory reset and once after the June update.

The factory reset was done in hopes of fixing whatever was going on with this random reboot on unplugging from AA, and other random reboots while not unplugging from AA as well as random transfers from my phone to my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 while in the middle of a call. This has happened many times while connected to AA as well as while just sitting at my desk. Apparently the factory reset did not fix either issue as they've both happened prior to as well as after both the factory reset and June update.

  • Pixel 6 reboots on Android Auto disconnection

I have had this strange behavior randomly happen in the last 6-8 weeks I would guess. It took a couple of times for me to figure out it was happening on disconnecting from my car, as I'm typically going straight from unplugging directly to my back pocket with the phone when I get out of the car. Once I pull the phone out of my pocket to use it, it asks for my pin since it restarted. I did do a factory reset of the phone and it still happens and still just as randomly. I did the factory reset about 5 days before the June feature drop and it's happened once after that as well. I'm sorta lost on what would be causing this. Any ideas?

What OS do you use on your pc and why?
  • I had a windows 7 desktop that I muddled through the process of setting up a dual boot with Ubuntu. I could not get certain programs to work that I needed to use for work, so just left that partition in place and went back to Windows 7. Partly because I'm not OS tech savvy and not certain how to remove it and partly because I have a new computer that is Windows 10 and is my daily driver now. The Windows 7/Ubuntu computer is now just sitting in the spare room running an RTL-SDR dongle using Windows 7 as an AIS feeder. I'd set that up on the Ubuntu partition but haven't had a chance to learn how to do that yet.
