How to make a month go by as fast as possible other than sleeping
  • Well, let's see...

Time in your local frame of reference slows down the closer you are to a gravitational force. This will give you the perception the rest of the universe is going much faster. However, you'd need a pretty strong gravitational force to notice any effect of it.

A black hole is one of the most powerful sources of gravity out there, but if you don't want to waste millions of years travelling to some far away celestial body, you can find an even stronger gravitational force much closer to home:

    Your mum.

  • Lego Racers- Intro
  • Now I want to play LEGO Racers again. I recently got LEGO 2K Drive from Humble Monthly but... It's not really the same...

  • Play stupid games, win stupid prize
  • "Because" is spelled wrong.

  • Is really possible to understand the magnitude of ones own brain?
  • No. My genius is so vast it boggles my own mind. Sometimes it scares me.

  • What did people do before smartphones to pass the time when you were bored?
  • Read books, read newspapers, chat on the land-line phone for hours.

Before the cliché of everyone being with their faces in smartphones there were clichés about husbands who do nothing but read newspapers all day, or teenage daughters that massively inflate the phone bill because she's talking with her friends for hours, or children with square eyes watching brain rotting cartoons all day.

  • Sony will cut around 250 jobs from the recordable media business manufacturing hub and will gradually cease production of optical discs, including Blu-ray discs.
  • You are very much missing the point for the sake of a pedantic argument.

Someone else already perfectly illustrated the point in a comment below, so I guess I'm spared the effort.

  • To all you outside of the US...
  • Scandinavia has always been very left side, so it comes to low surprise to me that the left won the European election in Denmark, despite the right trend in the rest of Europe.

However, I will add that right wing Europe is still pretty left from America. Take Geert Wilders, the new guy from the Netherlands. The policies he wants to enact are stricter laws, more difficulty for immigrants, a stronger police force, street curfews for teenagers (real old man yells at cloud energy), and withdrawal from the climate agreement. All very right wing.

But... He also wants better funding for hospitals and schools, higher wages for nurses and teachers, more robust free healthcare system, hard caps and regulations on the increasing housing prices, more affordable housing, a more efficient and cost effective energy grid. If an American politician starts talking about these things they'll be called a communist!

  • TF is wrong with people.
  • Yes I know nearly every country has elements like this. But in the US it's a bit more than just some elements.

I can see it in American advertisements, TV series, movies, political speeches, and a lot of rather loud opinions.

  • Eminem serving food to customers at his Mom's Spaghetti restaurant, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan
  • Well let's see... 9 USD is about 62 DKK.

Honestly... Not bad. That's about the same price as a sharawma box here in Copenhagen, maybe even a little cheaper, depending on the quality. If I want to buy a burger from a food cart, just a single burger at the street food place near the Nørrebro shopping center, that'd be 85 to 90 DKK, which is about 13 USD for a burger.

The Iranian food stand sells food for 120 DKK per portion, or 16 USD. Pizzas in the neighborhood are between 90 and 110 DKK. A single durum shawarma is about 70 DKK. You get the idea.

Depending on the quality of the spaghetti, I'd go grab some regularly. Compared to what I'm used to, that's a pretty decent price.

Of course, McDonald's and Burger King are cheaper, but... That's just trash. Some real trash.

  • TF is wrong with people.
  • At this point, is being American basically a religion? Such weird cult-like displays of patriotism...

  • To all you outside of the US...
  • Really? Because every time the weather in Finland goes about 10°C I hear my Finnish friends complain like it's the apocalypse. XD I'm just glad Denmark is having a decent summer this year.

  • To all you outside of the US...
  • Europe is far from being communist. XD

  • To all you outside of the US...
  • Unfortunately, when America farts we're all forced to smell it. America wants Europeans to stay out of American business, buts that's rather difficult to do when that country demands to be the center of attention.

  • Texas school district agrees to remove ‘Anne Frank’s Diary,’ ‘Maus’ and 670 other books after right-wing group’s complaint
  • It's very difficult to avoid comparing right wing America to fascists when they have this much of a problem with Maus.

  • While you were worried about socialism…
  • The choir. This is preaching to the choir.

  • Steam Deck Now Cheaper Than A Switch During Valve's Big Summer Sale
  • I bought a certified refurbished 512 GB LCD model. This was shortly before the OLED version came out. You can get a lot of games to run 4 hours on it, longer if the game hardly challenges the Deck.

Other games just juice the Deck like a lemon.

Games like Worms WMD last a very long time on the Deck.

No Man's Sky lasts 4-ish hours, though perhaps a little under 4 hours.

Civ 6 sucks the battery dry in less than 2 hours, but with tweaking some settings now lasts 4 hours.

Phoenix Point runs well but drinks battery power like an alcoholic, lasting only an hour.

Switch games emulated through Yuzu can last a surprisingly long time. I've managed to play Breath of the Wild for nearly 4 hours.

All in all I would say the LCD model is not a bad choice at all. However, if you can afford the OLED model, I'd recommend getting that one; it's exactly like my model in performance, except better in a few areas. The battery is bigger and lasts much longer. The screen looks gorgeous being an OLED. Valve has made opening the Deck easier, for maintenance and modification purposes.

  • Looks like something straight from Warhammer 40K
  • That's a really good quote.

  • Like chicken but tastier: Plant-based nuggets outperform chicken nuggets in world's largest blind tasting
  • I had some plant based nuggets and they were horrible! They had all the flavour and texture of chewing a cardboard box.

    So colour me skeptical.

  • Is there a Linux drawing tablet, or a tablet Linux can be installed on?

I have a 2nd generation XP Pen Artist 13. It's a great tablet and I've managed to make it work with my Steam Deck too.

    But...

It's basically an external monitor with pressure sensitive surface, so still less portable than an actual stand alone table. So I'm wondering if there is a tablet with a pressure sensitive screen and battery free pen that either comes with Linux or can install Linux on.

The programs I use for making art are Krita, Gimp, and Blender 3D.

    Why are honeybee stingers barbed?

There are many other bee species that can sting Humans and survive, but the European honeybee has a barbed stinger, so it cannot remove the stinger once it's stung. In attempting to remove the stinger the bee will rupture its lower abdomen and then die.

Why? What is the evolutionary advantage to that?

Looking for music similar to the album Dreaming by The Art of Noise

Recently discovered The Art of Noise by looking up Max Headroom. Found a bunch of tracks I like that fit well with my already existing Spotify playlists.

However, I want to find more music like three of the dance tracks on the album Dreaming. specifically like the tracks "Colour Red", "Colour Maroon", and "Colour White".

    Any recommended tracks/albums/artists?
