@thegiddystitcher @discworld I kind of want to do this (as I suspect I'll be too busy otherwise to participate), except that the final step of the recipe would be "age in dry heat until petrified" and soda bread never seems to last that long in my house.
If anyone else wants to try, just make an Irish soda bread with wholegrain flour, leave out the dried fruits if your recipe calls for it, and let it dry out. For use in woodworking, cut rough slices before ageing.
@thegiddystitcher @discworld I have a family recipe for soda bread, that, if properly aged, makes a passable imitation of Dwarf Bread.
We once dented a wooden table with it, then sanded out the dent, using the cut side.
