There is currently a huge wave of automated spambot sign-ups on other Lemmy instances. This post explains how lemm.ee will respond.
  • So I've been messing around with standing up my own instance (mostly as a learning tool) and near as I can tell, even with email verification and registration required it still creates the user, they're just not enabled. How are you differentiating between servers with a large amount of unverified accounts vs servers with open signups?

  • What app do you use for Mastodon?
  • I want to second using the website as a pwa. It works quite well.

  • Websites telling me what I can do with my own browser so they can have their pointless cookies
  • That's also asshole design. Most people are behind some form of nat. It's especially egregious for customers of ISPs who use CGNAT.

  • New Tech Demo Uses AI to Let You Converse with NPCs
  • I'd kill for a game with the scope of Skyrim where the NPCs truly felt like they were living their own lives.

  • Link redirect
  • I feel your pain but the most obvious problem, is that any link that hasn't federated will lead to a 404.

  • FYI the mods of r/dndnext, r/rpg, and r/dungeonworld have created a Lemmy server
  • Sorry, still learning. Saw the reddit link and my brain fixated on that.

  • I have 10 lemmy instance accounts. Am I doing something wrong?
  • I have the same problem on both. Seems like the !name@server nor the full url ever populate. What I am finding is that after some time, if I come back and just type in a partial name (to search federated communities) it'll show up.

  • Android Snapchat users are second fiddle, god I hate having to use it.
  • I feel that. I have maybe 3 friends who use Signal. The rest are spread out sms, fb, discord, etc...

  • FYI the mods of r/dndnext, r/rpg, and r/dungeonworld have created a Lemmy server
  • Care to link it for those of us who don't want to give reddit traffic?

  • Android Snapchat users are second fiddle, god I hate having to use it.
  • I mean yes but, you don't have to use it.

  • Why the galactic barrier and transporters don’t match real science, and why warp drive might
  • The fact that everyone treats Golem-Picard as True-Picard felt to me like confirmation that, in the ST universe, what makes you you is your mind. Memories, thought patterns, etc... I know it was tv-show hand wavery but the fact that no one mourned the death of their friend, or really ever once questioned the validity of the golem taking his place bothered me a little.

  • Idea: Book Club but for games
  • Maybe then we just need to mirror that activity here.

  • Spam flooded instances?
  • Maybe start by alerting those admins of the potential problem and give them a chance to respond.

  • Is parapheum.com an example of botted user lemmy instance?
  • I didn't have a good frame of reference. I see now that 6000+ users is abnormal.

  • Is parapheum.com an example of botted user lemmy instance?
  • It's also possible, being that it's a new instance, it's just being used to subscribe to communities outside of that instance.

  • I have 10 lemmy instance accounts. Am I doing something wrong?
  • Is this actually working for anyone on lemmy.one right now? I have been unable to subscribe to any community/magazine/etc... that's not already federated to lemmy.one for almost a week now.

I've tried searching by URL. I've tried searching by !name@server.

Nothing works, it just sits there. I've hit search multiple times. I've tried to be patient and just come back later and try again. I get there's growing pains, and I'm guessing this server is getting overloaded. If that's the case, the admin posting in Meta "hey we're aware of the problems" would be nice.

  • Why the galactic barrier and transporters don’t match real science, and why warp drive might
  • Sure, and I 100% understand that. But, we're talking about what if it could be real.

  • Why the galactic barrier and transporters don’t match real science, and why warp drive might
  • Could be head canon but I'm pretty sure the air is dematerialized when the people are rematerialized. Not sure how they keep more air from rushing in.

  • How To subscribe to Kbin magazines?

I was under the impression that, due to the nature of ActivityPub, that Lemmy and Kbin are interoperable. I've been trying all day to sub to something a fedia.io. I can see it on the list of federated instances here but the search always comes up "no result".

I'm able to subscribe to other communities at other Lemmy instances (with some patience).

Is there a difference syntax I should be using?

    Thanks
