Ernest needs to quickly delegate or this instance will quickly die
  • I didn't say anything at all about moderators or admins.

That's what everyone here is discussing, that's what the OP of this thread is talking about. You're calling people who are correctly pointing out that Kbin needs more mods and admins, with the stated goal of REDUCING Ernest's administrative burdens and stress, Drama llamas and trolls, and telling them to fuck off.

    What on earth dude.

  • Ernest needs to quickly delegate or this instance will quickly die
  • Could you give some examples of why it would be bad to have more community moderators, and maybe one or two extra admins? It seems like that would only strengthen Kbin. The moderators could fight the spam effectively, and the new admins could handle managing the busywork of the website while Ernest codes.

It seems like it would be an absolute win all around?

  • RE: Is Ernest still here?
  • His reasoning is kind've... Like, off, isn't it? How would a single paragraph message saying "Hey guys, I'm not dead." cause... Chaos? Like what?

And him saying he's been working on stuff... So, he's been around and watching, but chose to work exclusively on the code when Kbin was under assault with spam, some of it illegal?

It's so crazily clear that Kbin needs additional admins to fill in for Ernest, to add more mods, to combat spam, to delete communities and accounts that have been sitting around for months, and yet still, there is absolutely no move toward rectifying any of that.

This isn't sustainable. People are saying it in this post, people have been saying it for months, there's no change. I don't mean to come down on Ernest, the dude is putting out all this work and effort for free selflessly, but it's becoming painfully clear that his personality traits (specifically the desire to do everything himself) is not only putting incredible stress onto Ernest himself, but it's severely effecting Kbin itself negatively, to the point that people are leaving and Ernest's response is... Basically business as usual.

    I don't see a positive outcome here.

  • So… what's going on?
  • Ernest said in a previous post with some Mbin drama that he's very, very slow to trust people, and that's why he's been slow to give anyone else admin access to the project.

That may have been okay when only a few hundred people were using Kbin, but the project far outgrew what a single person can manage, especially since he's not only the main developer of the backend and frontend of Kbin, but also the only admin, moderator of multiple communities, AND decided to tackle making a Mobile Kbin app since that other one became vaporware. That is WAY too much for a single person to handle and still have any sort of existence offline.

This has been brought to his attention, but as you mentioned, nothing changes, and he continues the cycle of putting incredible load on himself, and then burning out. It's not sustainable, and unfortunately his lack of trust in others, and an unhealthy level of self-reliance, will ultimately keep Kbin from thriving.

  • Can registrations on kbin.social be disabled to stop spammers
  • It seems like having more admins here would be greatly beneficial in combatting that problem. Is Ernest open to having additional admins? AFAIK he is the only one, and he's cleary biting off more than he can chew.

  • Can registrations on kbin.social be disabled to stop spammers
  • https://kbin.social/m/opensource is plastered with spam, that would be a good one to moderate.
