Joe Rogan Blasts ‘Bulls**t Game’ of ‘Pretending’ Everyone Is ‘Hitler’ After Elon Musk Accused of ‘Nazi Salute’: ‘Crying Wolf’
  • Well I don’t really follow Rogan, but I’ve seen and heard snippets here and there and he always struck me as at least honest. A lot of the (rightfully)shit he gets from liberals is because he doesn’t push people when they say downright incorrect things in his program. But I get why he does that, if he started doing that people would stop going to his show, no one wants to be put in an uncomfortable position especially if you’re not being paid.

But it seem’s that now he’s just fully down with the agenda, which I did not expect to happen so fast.

  • YouTube shorts disproportionately promotes alt-right content according to this experiment
  • Not necessarily. For example a lot of “manosphere” guys have taken a hold of philosophy, health and fitness topics, a liberal influencer can give a liberal view on these subjects. For example in philosophy, explain how Nietzsche was not just saying that you can do whatever the fuck you want, or how stoicism is actually a philosophy of tolerance not of superiority etc. there’s really a lot of space that can be covered.

  • YouTube shorts disproportionately promotes alt-right content according to this experiment
  • I was gonna say this. There’s very little liberal or left leaning media being made and what there is is mostly made for a female or LGBTQ audience. Not saying that men cannot watch those but there’s not a lot of “testosterone” infused content with a liberal leaning, one of the reasons Trump won was this, so by sheer volume you’re bound to see more right leaning content. Especially if you are a cisgender male.

Been considering creating content myself to at least stem the tide a little.

  • My dad is not enjoying my healthy food
  • Imma be honest with you chief, you’re gonna have a hard time converting a non vegan into a vegan especially if he has a basic palate. What you need to do is make those dishes with meat to gradually ease him into it or don’t cook at all.

I love healthy food but I’m not vegan and I would also be upset if someone cooked for me like this all week long. I’d love the dishes but I’d want some meat in them by day 3.

I’m a hypocrite too because I’m very opposed to the conditions in the meat industry but have yet to find ethically raised poultry and cattle. I don’t think killing animals to eat is wrong but I do think that they deserve a place of honor in our society for giving their life to nourish and sustain us.

  • German parliament to debate ban on far-right AfD next week
  • Violence against movements have a history of galvanizing them. For evidence look at the OG Nazis.

Also a ban, imo, does not qualify as violence. Violence would be if the discussion was to purge them like the roaches they are, but that’s not what’s happening.

  • German parliament to debate ban on far-right AfD next week
  • I suspect banning them will make them more powerful than they are. What we really need to do with these movements is to ridicule them at every chance possible, do not only condemn them but actively mock them and treat them with the highest degree of disdain. Make it clear that a shitstain is more worthy of consideration than them. We used to do that with the KKK in the US and it worked wonders.

  • MD Governor Formally Certifies Abortion Rights in State Constitution
  • I find it pretty ironic and interesting that Trump is single handedly responsible for making democrats believers of state sovereignty. At least something good will come out of this shitshow. It’s really the only way to curb autocracy.

  • Is Lemmy actually growing?
  • Ah well I’m just parroting what I’ve read. I’m only superficially familiar with most tech stuff. I do know that the ban at least applies to the device, email and ip address for sure.

  • Maybe someday
  • Yes he would if the option is making 0 dollars. Which is the option Bytedance faces, losing one of their biggest most profitable markets when they could get a big bag or do a stock sale and continue to profit from its growth.

Also I’d like to remind you, the US is not the only country looking to ban TikTok, other western countries are eyeing it as well.

For me their malicious intentions are transparent. Hell this bill passed with full bipartisan support after congress saw the intel acquired by the alphabet agencies proving as much. When was the last that happened?

  • Is Lemmy actually growing?
  • Doesnt work. They ban your ip, MAC address, email, everything. They even have a tool that flags people that may be doing ban evasion based on behavior and communities that are joined by said account. You could get around it but it’s way too much effort just to use reddit.

  • Is Lemmy actually growing?
  • I would prefer if it grew because so many communities are dead. It seems that only political and shitposting instances have constant activity.

For me it’s still not a real Reddit alternative. Which sucks because I’m permabanned from Reddit.

  • Maybe someday
  • I don’t see how this is authoritarian, Bytedance’s bad intentions are clear. They could make money from selling the app, keep making money from it in a stock sale but yet they’d rather have 0 dollars than relinquish control of their brainrot engine. It’s clear that the CCP values it more as a cultural weapon than as a product.

    PermabanQuestion

I’ve been permabanned from Reddit for harassment. I was fucking with some guys that liked anime in a non anime subreddit, I simply called them Chinese cartoons and they got mad, bigly. Anyways I trolled too much using that account so apparently they figured it was better to cut me off the website entirely. I would like to use Reddit still, but every account gets banned as soon as I make it. It tells me I can appeal but I can’t actually because that was more than a year ago.

If I delete that account and all associated accounts, and make new account not associated with them (new email), will it get banned too? I know reddit bans are not just IP bans but also use device ID and all that shit. Will I have to buy a new computer exclusively for Reddit? Or does my device becomes unflagged the moment I delete the banned account?

I need help with this shit. I like lemmy but there’s just not enough people here.

Why are we not banning algorithms?

Since Meta announced they would stop moderating posts much of the mainstream discussion surrounding social media has been centered on whether a platform has a responsibility or not for the content being posted on their service. Which I think is a fair discussion though I favor the side of less moderation in almost every instance.

But as I think about it the problem is not moderation at all: we had very little moderation in the early days of the internet and social media and yet people didn’t believe the nonsense they saw online, unlike nowadays were even official news platforms have reported on outright bullshit being made up on social media. To me the problem is the godamn algorithm that pushes people into bubbles that reinforce their correct or incorrect views; and I think anyone with two brain cells and an iota of understanding of how engagement algorithms works can see this. So why is the discussion about moderation and not about banning algorithms?
