Any artists/photographers interested in providing a community icon and/or banner image?
  • Hey, cool, you can just upload them to imgur, dropbox, google drive, or any other method you like and just provide me a link.

  • City Council is voting today to implement a municipal ID system, with the goal of creating better access to checking/savings accounts, building businesses and access to better city services

Full Twitter thread from Mayor Q:

    >Four years ago, advocates for our new American community; in homelessness outreach; and those seeking better services for all, approached me about a municipal ID program, helping our residents access checking/savings accounts, build businesses, and access better city services.

    >Today, we are ready to implement. With my sincerest thanks to WeDevelopment Credit Union, proudly founded as a Black-owned financial institution based at 30th and Prospect with city support, the new Fountain Card will be accessible to all Kansas Citians—removing barriers to all.

    >The Fountain Card can be used as ID and to access all city services, the library, transit, banking services, and more. This will be transformative for access to opportunity for everyone present in Kansas City. We look to grow even more places for card deployment. I am proud.

If anyone wants your work featured in the banner and/or the icon, feel free to comment here with your work.

It looks like Lemmy community icons display at 120x120 px and banners display at 736x230 px, but you can upload larger images than that. So whatever you submit, try to keep a 1:1 aspect ratio for the icon and 16:5 for the banner. If something ends up needing resized, I can deal with that part.

Original content from members of this community only, please. If you want credited in the sidebar, also drop your preferred @ in with your submission.

I'll give this thread a while to gather submissions before making any changes and if there are multiple submissions, I will use the most upvoted. If there are no submissions after a while, I may end up using some of my own photography.

Hey KC! Is anyone alive out there?
  • I'm somewhat expecting another wave of growth here in a few days when the reddit api price changes take effect.

Reminder that trash day is pushed back a day for Juneteenth

Hopefully this saves someone a trip to the curb because I always forget about holiday delays.

Also it's election day. Go make our city council better

  • Hopefully! Thanks for everything.

  • But, now it is letting me update the sidebar with both selected.

  • Something else weird, with only undetermined selected on the community, I was able to update the sidebar, but I was unable to reply to you (same infinitely spinning issue) until I reenabled both English and Undetermined on the community (I have both enabled in my user settings)

  • Thumbnail pics not loading
  • Oh wow, sure enough that did it. Maybe this is helpful: I was inspecting it with the firefox network inspector and with both English and Undetermined selected, clicking save doesn't send any network requests at all.

  • Some context for everyone else: I'm unable to update the community icon, banner, or sidebar text. Clicking save just spins infinitely.

  • It's not giving me the option to appoint you as mod, maybe because you're admin? I see the option on others' posts but not this one

  • Why do some of the avatar/community icons on Midwest seem...Broken?
  • I'm a mod of /c/kansascity and ours is one that is broken. I'm not sure if this is the case for others with broken icons, but I'm actually unable to update the icon or even the sidebar text at all. Clicking save results in an indefinitely-spinning loading icon. I've let it sit for a long time and it never does anything. I wanted to give it a few days before bothering @[email protected] about it in case it was my problem, but it seems like it's still doing it.

  • Ohh interesting, I'll check on that too

  • New midwest.social users look here
  • I can't check right now because it seems like lemmy.ml is down right now (so maybe you're right about that), but I'm almost certain I only have english enabled. I'll re-try subscribing too. I did see there's a github issue that seems somewhat related to this https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1315

edit: tbh I might just end up staying here; I like it here. Only went on lemmy.ml because it was the first one I heard about.

  • New midwest.social users look here
  • New to midwest.social and lemmy in general and I had a question - I made some posts/comments from lemmy.ml but I noticed they weren't getting any interaction and they weren't actually showing up when I visited midwest.social directly. Additionally, when subscribing to a community, the button turned to "subscribe pending." Does this mean lemmy.ml is blocked here? I noticed there is a Blocked Instances list (https://midwest.social/instances) but lemmy.ml is listed under Linked Instances

KC Tenants Power - 2023 General Election Voter Guide

Don’t forget about the upcoming election on June 20. Early voting is available now.

KC Tenants Power (the political sister organization of the KC Tenants tenant union) has done a lot of work and research to prepare this voter guide and imo, it’s the best progressive guide out there. This election has some of the best and most progressive candidates we’ve probably ever had.
