The way to move forward on budget is to stop wasting so much money on corporate bailouts, the military, and to actually fix our shit show of a tax system so that the rich pay their fair share. If we did so, we would have more than enough money to fund the social programs the left wants while decreasing taxes/heathcare costs.

Corporations have proven themselves unable to self regulate. They poison our land, water, and sky. They pay poverty wages. They pay executives hundreds of times as much as average workers. They hoard their stolen wealth in tax free, offshore accounts. They price gouge and monopolize. They lay off workers without a second thought. They intentionally make commodities and basic necessities scarce to drive up prices. And they do this all while bribing politicians to keep things this way.
So damn right they need to be controlled better. They can't be trusted to be ethical or sustainable, so they must be regulated.
Old/retired is social security/401k/pension.
Not everybody has payed enough into social security to get any use out of it, and not everybody has a 401k/pension. And that especially goes for pensions.

There are many people who will never, for the rest of their life, or for a very long part of their life have no ability to heal or become able bodied. Are you suggesting they get booted off these programs anyways?
