Is it just me or has Lemmy become more negative and less fun?
  • I'm still around too, though, for me, it was less about "sticking it" to Reddit and more about Reddit not feeling fun anymore. I've noticed the same thing as OP and was hoping to find some insight from longer-term Lemmy users about whether this is a result of the influx of new users being more negative, or just a return to form for Lemmy. From other comments around here it sounds like it may be the latter, alas.

  • ‘Modern cars are a privacy nightmare,’ the worst Mozilla’s seen
  • The best part is when the publisher shuts down the server on their end so the game breaks even if you are connected to the internet. I'm still waiting for Blood Dragon to get a patch to remove the periodic calls home, but it doesn't seem likely at this point

  • Lemmy.world Hexbear Statement
  • To be fair, the hand wringing activities around exploding heads probably included a lot of soul searching and deciding what is and is not important to the admins. Stands to reason that having learned and made some decisions from that would make the process faster next time around.

  • Sound Off: How many 10+ year redditors have left the site?
  • 15 years for me. I'm not the type to go scorched earth, so I'll still pop in briefly from time to time from a Google search or to look for something specific, but I don't use Reddit for near-constant idle browsing anymore, like I used to. Now I have Lemmy for that, although it would probably be healthier to just cut out social media altogether (or severely reduce it).

  • Trump Is an Extremely Dumb Fascist
  • It's also worth considering that this high-level definition is describing the circumstances after the system takes hold and becomes dominant. Thankfully, the US is not a fascist state yet, so whatever policies are currently being pushed by Trump and the GOP should be seen as part of an effort to gain power, not as an accurate reflection of what policies to expect after uncontested power has been seized.

And, historically, the followers who benefit from fascism tend to be the ones most closely aligned with and actively involved in promoting and enforcing the fascist regime - not necessarily the patsies who got them there in the early stages.

  • PSA: Lemmy.world has been compromised! (Edit: Multiple Instances are down)
  • This is why I'm glad I made redundant accounts on multiple instances. When there are problems on lemmy.world, I can just hop on over to another. That's never been an option with Reddit.

Now if there was only a way to export or sync user settings like subscriptions, it would be perfect.

  • Did Lemmy.world get hacked or something?

My main account is on Lemmy.World, but suddenly every time I try to go to the main page I get redirected to a single frame of a video with some guy subtitled to say something unpleasant about children. I also got sent to lemon party once.

Lemm.ee is working fine, so I'm guessing it's not a problem on my end. The last thing I saw/clicked on before this behavior was what looked like an official post about threads.net being whitelisted, which makes it tempting to speculate about overzealous Lemmy users hacking the site as a form of protest. No idea if that's actually the case, though.
