mondoweiss.net Why the fight for Palestine is the fight against U.S. imperialism in the region

We need an alternative approach to understanding Palestine that situates it within the wider region and the Middle East’s central place in our fossil fuel-centered world.

Linux back at 4.04% on the Desktop. Windows went below 73%
  • Do they use the BSD userland instead? Interesting...

Perhaps the definition isn't good enough or accurate. What would you call a system that perhaps uses Darwin kernel or Hurd plus GNU user land, or any combo of.

  • Houthi rebels say they've fired a new 'homemade hypersonic missile,' posting footage of its launch at a civilian ship
  • Yes, I have read the definition is fuzzy, allowing for the possibility that they are lying, half of war is propaganda. On the counter, Yemen probably does have a true hypersonic or are very close to getting one. Their missiles program is decades old and goes back to when South Yemen was part of the Soviet camp. If they don't have it now, they will have it before the war is over. Both Iran and Russia have hypersonic weapons, and I bet one of them if not both already sent them the designs for the Yemenis to locally assemble them.

  • Linux back at 4.04% on the Desktop. Windows went below 73%
  • I am still hoping it will hit 10% market share within my life time. I remember when it was predicted to hit that in 2010, obviously it didn't happen*. Of course for me personally, the year of the Linux Desktop was 2007 when I was finally able to use it as my main OS at home, I tried it before many times since 2003.

    * not counting systems that use the Linux kernel but aren't considered a traditional GNU+Linux desktop.

  • Holy voting choices!
  • Could you be any more racist?

Note: this graph is from November 2023 (4,100 children killed), we are in July 2024 and it is much worse now in Gaza (over 15,000 children killed and hospitals are out of service and can't keep count), but you clearly don't see Palestinians as humans. To suggest that Putin is worse after more than 8 months of a genocide in Gaza is insulting.

Israel refuses to come clean about its links with the murderous Hutu regime that carried out the genocide in Rwanda 25 years ago. But Foreign Ministry documents show that Israel was aware of the massacres against the Tutsi minority way back in the 1960s — and turned a blind eye.

Nuclear isn't perfect, but it is the best we have right now.
  • Wow, some industry lobbyists got government funding, amazing.

Not just in the US, China too is building nuclear reactors faster than any other country

Global fossil fuel subsidies are at $7 trillion, so I guess those are really relevant to our future as well!

No of course not. The subsidies at this point at a crime against humanity.

I don’t want developing countries to waste their money on nuclear power when they can get much more cost effective renewables.

If the renewables are cost effective and provide stable power then I too want them to be priority -near zero risks-, but more importantly industry and business will seek them on their own. I just hold that nuclear power should be part of the mix. Take the UAE for example it is investing in both nuclear and solar.

  • More genocide apologia and bad history. We are clearly on different teams.

I'm not sure what's the end goal of denying the genocide or giving the excuse that Israel is a geopolitical ally. Am I supposed to say "oh that makes the genocide okay, I will vote for Biden"? It is just more cruelty and dehumanization.

  • Are you talking about First Past the Post and Winner Take All?

I'm still not voting for the lesser evil. I think we are overdue to seriously consider a 3rd party, instead of choosing between two flavours of genocide.

  • You realize that this doesn't affect citizens, which Muslim Americans are and most Arab Americans are either Christian or not very religious. Otherwise the same kind of abuse will continue as under Biden and since 9/11/2001 and no one will notice or care.

Plus what Trump is suggesting is more harmful to the US than to Arab or Muslim Americans, the US missing out on "Hamas sympathizing students" i.e. most of the world, means that US universities are missing out on revenue. US universities are already struggling because of the decline in number of foreign students.
