ChatGPT users drop for the first time as people turn to uncensored chatbots
  • I really doubt the number of people using uncensored chat bot is that high. The drop of usage probably has more to do with novelty and AI general limitation.

The AI models are not always that easy to use and they are being developed at neck breaking speed, so I cannot imagine the numbers of people dedicate themselves to use such AI would be that high.

There is a niche of using AI chatbot as RP tool for sure, but it has always been a separated thing from the start and it cannot cause such sudden drop.

  • FYI, lots of users are polling to defederate sh.itjust.works
  • It does feel that many people here on lemmy are experiencing 1st hand of "feeding the troll". The Donald community created is probably done by less than a handful of people and it drove hundred times more amount of users to turn against each other.

This is why I frown upon the idea of defederation and I blame the users for opening that pandora's box. People, including mods, are too busy getting at each other throats and praising the value of their bubble communities rather than having any sort of planning.

  • [Discussion] Regarding Exploding-Heads, the admins are now banning users requesting defederation. This isn't a bad thing.
  • That's an interesting strategy tbh. Remind me of "you have been banned from r/Pyongyang". Honestly the people screaming defederation is more annoying and more active than the community they are screaming at, so I am all for this approach.

Maybe when the technology is more mature, this process will be done through automated bot. That's something to think about too.

  • Why do some people care so much about making this a new Reddit?
  • Based on what you wrote, it doesn't look like you used reddit for too long. Most of the more interesting things on reddit are very niche (hobbyists), very personal (old askreddit, helpful supportive communities for minorities, big comment threads about global events, etc.), or very regional specific (food, culture, belief, etc.) There are quite a lot of people still use small subs on reddit exactly for those reasons, finding very technical or obscure knowledge is only possible thanks for small communities. That is what many wish to replicate here.

I do not get what you even mean by saying niche subs will survive as they did before. No, there are a lot of sub drama and not all sub survive drama, and this time reddit itself is trying strip contents and agency out of the users and mods. What do you even mean saying it won't effect small subs?

If you just doom scroll lookking at meme pics and comments you aren't really experiencing much other than dopamine content. Just because you do not engage in smaller communities doesn't mean that these changes aren't affecting those people.

  • What's your mega-project right now?
  • To start off. I have been trying to do a fairly weird project, not even recently, but for years! I want to make a bridge across huge water space from an evil biome to a good biome.

Generating a world with both evil and good biome close together is a bit tricky, but the thing that held me back for so many attempts is that I am just too greedy with the world gen. I keep trying to get Tower nearby (along with all 4 major races), and evil mist for rp reason. I think the new update let you send envoy to neighbors though, so I can be more flexible with the spot.

The Northbridge series by Kruggsmash does inspire me to give this mega project a try again. The last attempt didn't go so well with extremely early Tower invasion. Currently I am waiting for multi-thread update before giving this another shot.

If there is one minor thing to complain about, it's the mini map. I want to make a long map (like 1x16 map) but the mini map looks awful as a result. If there is a way to just disable the mini map (like old school DF version), that would be great.

  • What's your mega-project right now?

Interesting to see a community for DF here so fast! I remember when I 1st saw DF on r/gaming sidebar and got hooked after seeing all the weird stories and crazy mega projects.

So for the sake of old time inspiration (and to try posting something) I want to ask what mega project people here dream about?
