which one is the best anime in your opinion?
  • Death Note was my first non-Toonami anime (dbz/voltron/etc). It's the only anime I could get my wife to check out. Truly awesome. I was 20 when I first watched it and thought Light was awesome. Watching it now 16 years later and man does it hit different. I now view Light as a complete psychopath and actively root against him. Love that my view of the characters is a complete 180 from my early years.

Legend of Vox Machina is freaking incredible and is probably my most re-watched "anime".

  • We don't want any more visitors, well-wishers, or distant relations!
  • This makes me wonder... wtf was the balrog's day to day like all those years? Was he really just hibernating? I mean, the maiar get bored. I can't imagine being a shadow hellfire demon makes you suddenly never get bored.

  • Advice for new dads
  • Additional thoughts (or echoing what has been said):

    1. Fretting over minor decisions is pointless. You aren't going to be able to mess your kid up. For example, my wife and I never co-slept with our son. We had friends that ONLY co-slept with their kid. I secretly expected them to have a hell of a time with transitioning their kid to a bed. It took them two weeks, which is about what it takes to introduce any kind of change. Everything averages out in the end and there's very few choices you can make that are going to be "wrong" and any challenges you have from making a decision others consider "wrong" are going to be minor and pass by very fast.

    2. Every dream you have for your kid is purely YOUR dream. None of it will come true. Your kid is going to have their own interests and there's very little you can do to ultimately influence those interests. Go with the flow and let them be who they want to be.

    3. Your child will have very little control early on in life. Let them make choices as often as possible. Pro-tip: Give them two things to choose from where both results are something you want. For example, you really want them to wear some matching clothes, give them two matching outfits to choose between. Want them to eat veggies? Give them two different veggies to choose between. etc.

    4. Change the very first diaper after they're born. Your spouse will always remember you handled that really nasty one.

    5. Push presents are a thing and your spouse expects it even if they say they don't or haven't mentioned it. Buy one.

    6. EVERYONE has an opinion on how you should parent and ALL of their opinions are worthless. Parent how you want to parent.

  • ...
  • I spent nearly 6-7 years developing control systems applications in LabVIEW. While I loved working in LabVIEW, I don't wish LabVIEW was more popular, but I would love to see a graphical programming language take off. The dataflow paradigm is really interesting to work with.

  • What is a good keyboard for android?
  • I actually forked your code so I could customize the keyboard a little bit. I was impressed that I didn't have any problems building the thing right away. Doesn't always happen for me with open source projects.

One thing that was driving me nuts was how sensitive the swipe gestures on the spacebar are. I guess my thumbs always do a slight swipe when I'm pressing space and it was moving the cursor position on me. I wiped out all of that code. If you're taking suggestions, a way to disable swipe gestures on the spacebar would be a cool add. I'll see if I can get together a PR for it as well and be a part of the solution.

  • What software you consider so bad it made you happy when you left your job?
  • You mean Emerson now! :P

I'm a CLA who spent 9 years developing LabVIEW applications for control systems. NI always annoyed me with their terrible decision-making and inability to catch up with modern times in the software world. (Their merge tool is so bad, it's next to impossible to have a multi-developer project)

  • The ADHD urge to lie about why you didn't do something because "my brain refused to start on it" doesn't make sense to a lot of neurotypicals.
  • You're welcome, but I'm no angel! His ADHD frustrates the absolute hell out of me. Trying to play with him results in a shift in activity every 5 minutes. It's painful when I get invested in drawing Godzilla pictures only to have to go play pretend Minecraft 5 minutes in.

Reading these is a survival mechanism for me!

On a side note: I've realized I share sooooooo many symptoms with him. Currently in progress getting tested for adult ADHD.

  • Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?
  • Did you ever happen to visit /r/samandtolki before it was banned? They really gave Boogie hell. They documented lie after lie from the dude. It's sad how much of a pathological liar Boogie is. The worst one I witnessed was him saying people were swating him. Mod of samandtolki did a FOIA request to Boogie's local police department and got camera footage from the officer that visited Boogie's home. Boogie was making a lot of suicide claims and a fan called a wellness check on him. One officer showed up and asked Boogie's roommate some questions. That was it.

  • What's a button you hate tapping or clicking accidentally?
  • When I got my mouse, it was so sensitive that I couldn't rest my pointer finger lest I accidentally click. Had to take the mouse apart and put some rubber pieces under it to reduce the sensitivity. Razer Deathadder V2. Works amazingly well after that mod.

Also I use the MessagEase keyboard on my phone and I'm constantly hitting spacebar when I meant to hit 'E'.

  • xkcd : Earth Temperature Timeline
  • Yup, but if I'm talking to someone who doesn't believe in man-made climate change and I show them the xkcd and answer their obvious follow-up question about how we know past temperature, and they STILL don't want to listen to me... well then I know I can never talk to that person again. :)
