Would you put up a flag somewhere?
  • It really is a fantastic flag. I can always hear David Spades voice in my head every time I look at it lol .

  • Would you put up a flag somewhere?
  • Got an American flag up in the front of the garage.

You can be proud of the good parts of being an American and still want to improve on the bad parts. I respect people's choice to not fly one if they don't feel like the flag deserves it right now, but I know in other countries that are fighting oppression you will see the American flag is often being waved in those crowds. To many people it still holds the symbol of freedom and individual identity.

I also have a "no touchy" emperors new groove version of the Gadsden flag on my wall because I find the meme hilarious.

  • Use for empty small propane tanks?
  • You have to tamper with the pressure release safety valves and provide a secondary flame unless you are using some bougie incendiary ammo (and even those aren't a guarantee to ignite something like propane on its own).

We used to blow up the normal sized ones like for your the backyard grill. We would fill the pressure release with valve with JB weld and then toss it into a bonfire and shoot it from like 500 feet away lol.

  • Trump Just Made Bribing Politicians Legal Again
  • ....did the legality of it ever really stop any of them in the first place? Lol

  • Best way to stay safe
  • See Mr Tesla driver that thinks the world revolves around him. I'm being courteous and communicating with you safely. It's for you.

  • What are your thoughts on “The fat of the land” by Prodigy ?
  • I went through a big prodigy phase in my teens (still listen often). I once had the house to myself so I loaded up the backyard surround sound system (living with some rich friends at the time, we did not have backyard surround sound money) with 6 CDs of prodigy. Got really stoned and then floated around in the pool with their small dog on my lap for hours. Probably one of the best single days of my life. Just pure glorious relaxation. Leisure on a level I have been chasing for the rest of my life lol.

  • Fifty years ago, Switzerland was poised to become as car-dependent as anywhere in North America. Now it has the best transit system in the world. What’s the secret to this alpine nation’s success
  • Yeah but you would have to convince Virginians to live closer to one place instead of being scattered to the wind across their state lol.

  • Fifty years ago, Switzerland was poised to become as car-dependent as anywhere in North America. Now it has the best transit system in the world. What’s the secret to this alpine nation’s success
  • The secret is having a over a third of your country living within a few kilometers of your largest city and more than half the country live within a few kilometers of the capitol and largest city.

It is nearly the exact same size as Virginia and shares almost exactly the same population. They just have the majority of their citizens living in or around two cities that aren't that far from each other (hour and half drive or less than an hour by train between the two cities).

  • New "Calexit" bid for California secession approved for signature gathering in effort to put measure on ballot
  • God dammit I find this so fucking hilarious. Every time a Republican wins you'll inevitably see an article talking about California is to leave. And on the flip side every time we get a Democrat in office fuckin Texas starts bitching and tryna leave.

I'm not going to say it'll never happen, but I would be willing to bet all the 7 dollars I have to my name that it's not gonna happen.

  • Judging by all the downvotes, you'd think they'd get the hint lol
  • You know what. You are right. I should not be using hivemind and echo chamber interchangeably.

That was not an accurate word for what I was talking about. Some of the people I interact with around here are absolutely part of a hivemind but for the majority it would be more accurate to describe them as willingly/purposely staying in an echo chamber or bubble as you stated.

My apologies for not listening carefully when you said that a few comments back.

  • Costco shareholders overwhelmingly reject anti-DEI proposal
  • Nah I hate DEI because once worked 2 years at a crappy job for meh pay because it was an opportunity to go into essentially my dream career and position at that time. Our manager finally left the company and then we all applied for the position. Instead of promoting any one of the VERY qualified people in my position (me and two other white guys) they hired a young Indian woman. She was very sweet and eager to learn, but she absolutely did not know a single thing about the job she was going into which was to be our manager. My boss literally had me train her because I was the most qualified (their words). They passed all of us over to grab this completely new employee that did not know a single thing about the job she needed to do. Literally zero experience in the field or as a manager. Her first fuckin job. And because I basically had to do her job while she learned and I was still doing my own job as well I got burnt out and quit.

I have absolutely no problem with women or any race working above or around me. I absolutely have a problem with skipping over theost qualified person for the job just to check a box on a fucking diversity quota. Imagine your parents die in a fire because the fire department needed fill a quota for scrawny people that can't carry much instead of hiring the most physically capable people possible.

I think job applications and interviews should be entirely anonymous. They shouldn't know anything about me besides what is relevant to the job they need me to do. I do not understand how Hire the most qualified person became racist/sexist but that is the dumbest goddamn thing I have ever heard.

  • Judging by all the downvotes, you'd think they'd get the hint lol
  • When you're talking to people you can sorta start to tell after awhile if they are arguing their points from their own beliefs or if they are just repeating what they have heard or been told by others around them.

You want me to say Ideological Purity instead of hivemind? We both know what I'm talking about when I say hivemind. Does the fact that you are willingly participating in a hivemind yourself potentially bother you? Is that your issue with that word? What word would you use to describe a group of people that all think exactly the same and they downvote or block anyone who doesn't think those exact same things? Please tell me what term you would use to describe that group of individuals.

  • Costco shareholders overwhelmingly reject anti-DEI proposal
  • Except for the rest of that comment which you cropped out where I go on to explain what I was blaming the management for. Because itnwas the women. Specifically the minority women who sat around doing the easiest jobs at any given time because the racist and sexist management allowed them to do so if they would play along with his creepy bullshit.

  • We appreciate your community service.
  • I'm not even "tall" by most peoples standards (5'11") and I will offer assistance if I can see a short person clearly struggling with something too high for them lol.

  • Costco shareholders overwhelmingly reject anti-DEI proposal
  • I said "Fuck Costco and DEI bullshit". Please point to where I blamed women or minorities for either of those things.

  • Judging by all the downvotes, you'd think they'd get the hint lol
  • ...except I'm not pushing my way of thinking on anyone else? Nor will I stop speaking to them simply because we disagree on something.

I have never gone "well you're in a hivemind so I'm gonna ignore you". I do call out people who mindlessly repeat the same things as everyone else in their circles without taking any time to have their own critical thoughts about the things themselves.

I think there is value in telling people they are inside of an echo chamber because occasionally they take a step back and realize that they are. It's rare but I see happen from time to time. I am willing to eat downvotes from the "hivemind" or whatever you want to call it if it means that something I said causes someone else to realize they are in a bubble and they start thinking for themselves or seek out other views to see where they actually fall on things. I've pulled several friends out of alt right dude bro circles over the last few years who were drowning in that particular tar pit of garbage.

  • USA comparison
  • Yeah I worked for a prestigious hospital years back, but through a contracting company so I couldn't even get medical from the hospital I worked at.

Eventually I got coverted over to an actual employee of the hospital, but I still couldn't afford their coverage because I wasn't making enough at the time lol.

Our medical industry is so fucked.

  • Costco shareholders overwhelmingly reject anti-DEI proposal
  • Your store must have been a nice store. I'm happy for you. My store was not. And yes I blame the higher ups because our GM was all buddy buddy with the new CEO and the top level people at the corporate office.

Meaning any complaints against our GM went absolutely nowhere. HR wouldn't do anything. The boss of our boss wouldn't do anything because technically even though he was only the GM of a store he was friends with too many at the top so he sorta had immunity from the district manager as well.

I never claimed my store was representative of all the individual stores. I did say it was a problem with my store and the top level management at Costco. Not the same claim.

  • I don't know where else to ask this. What do the various symbols I've seen around mean?

Obviously I understand the trash can icon, but I didn't delete my own comment so is that telling me the mods or the original poster deleted my comment? Does the symbol on the right mean they blocked me?

I tried finding info anywhere in the sync app and looked for Lemmy FAQ pages but none of them had anything on the symbols anywhere.
