Former distrohoppers, where did you settle down?
  • I've been using manjaro for around a year. It broke on me once, probably my fault, idk. I enjoy it! I've distro hopped many places and a year is a long time for me, so much about it is right for me. You'll certainly get a worthy experience of what arch is capable of, I believe.

That being said, I plan on swapping to arch really soon.

  • Trans friendly store advice?
  • Yeah, my work (not a clothing store) says "LGBTQ+ friendly" on google maps in the about section so with a bit of luck maybe a local clothing store has that.

  • So how are you all liking it so far?
  • I have nearly 100 hours and I love it! I love it enough to be concerned about the new update and where it shows the dev teams priorities are and how it will play out in the long term sustainability.

Either way it has far surpassed my expectations, entirely my type of game and I want it to be the best it can be, but it does require better monetisation for it to have healthy growth.

  • great experience at my new job!
  • Thanks for sharing Emma! I get pretty doomey thinking about how anything like this would never happen where I live, and it probably won't for a while. It's still nice to hear some hope, that this kind of thing isn't unrealistic.

  • Palia's PC Clsed Beta Began Today!

    palia.com Palia – Welcome Home

A cozy community sim MMO for you and your friends.

    Palia – Welcome Home

It's a really fun cozy MMO that has kept me addicted all week! To me it's a beautiful fusion between Stardew Valley and RuneScape.

Fishing, Farming, Woodcutting, Hunting, Mining, Cooking, even Furniture Crafting are all skills you can level to unlock new things to do associated with that activity. Along with all the socialising NPCs and romancing that Stardew has to offer. Such a great hook and gameplay loop that has me wholly absorbed.

  • How much do you use your deck? Was it a good purchase?
  • I usually play around an hour each day.

Absolutely no goals, I just enjoy gaming on the go, it's a vessel for that and I'm a strong candidate.

    ‎Hello Kitty Island Adventure

It appears to be an Animal Crossing competitor! It's currently only available on iPhone, via Apple Arcade. It may receive a port much like the same developer's other game, HEROish, which got ported 5 months after release. Other Apple Arcade games that have also been ported are Wylde Flowers and Alba. So there is hope.

HRT has changed my perception of my own gender
  • This is totally relatable. I see gender as a whole as pretty nebulous. For myself, it is anything but easy to understand, and terrifyingly difficult to explain to others. What I hear from you sounds gender-fluid, it may or may not be a label that resonates with you.

It can also be beneficial to see your gender expression as independent from your gender identity. You might still be a woman, but express masc if that's just the vibe for that day. There shouldn't be rules. Trans people have suffered enough from gender expectations and pressure. Becoming trans doesn't remove them, it only shifts them to a new goalpost.

Personally I love titling myself as Non-binary. It's an umbrella term, independently it isn't very descriptive. I don't resonate with gender-fluid, demi-girl, bigender, etc... I sort of see myself as Non-binary as a n act of protest against gender. It's a social construct as far as I'm concerned, and putting more thought into it feels like a disservice to myself. I spent enough years searching desperately for a label that hasn't been created yet. It is exhausting, It is constrictive, I don't want to do that to myself. I wanna do whatever it is I want. My body, my choice, my life, and it damn better be my right too.

Hopefully you figure it out. I technically never did, but what I have found is a path to make myself a lot happier. I hope you can find the same at the very least. Sending you virtual hugs 🤗

  • [Game] Recommendations for factory games
  • Nova Lands vouch, very good.

  • why did you switch?
  • Windows 11 was announced and I got scared. Steam Deck got announced and I saw a clear hopeful future. I had tried out linux a few times but always had a hiccup with my wireless wifi usb dongle, but now I'm wired with Ethernet. I had a free weekend, had a keen interest in delving, got reassured gaming is solid there, watched a few videos and I plunged.

Personally it took a couple days to get it to a desired state of usability, I have certain niche needs so finding a way to get those while learning the basics of linux took me a while, but aside from that I've loved it ever since. I feel in control, the second I have an issue with something I somehow have the freedom to fix it. It's not perfect, but it always entertains me and I have seen clear innovation in the ~2 years I've been here.

  • [Discussion] I have a spare Dualsense controller that I may use on ps5, use that or buy something like the 8bitdo ultimate?
  • It's your preference, however in the event the Dualsense ages too old and needs replacement, assuming you have a PS5 you'll need to replace it to continue playing on PS5

My main platform is PC, I have various consoles and I keep a unique controller for each because on PC I play enough to burn through controllers, If I use my one Dualsense that would risk my ability to play on my PS5 until I replace it and limit my next controller option to just the Dualsense.

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 9th through the July 15th)
  • I remember trying out Castlevania during a school trip on my modded 3ds. It was shortly after I played my first Soulslike, Bloodborne. Bloodborne gave me a confidence boost that wasn't ready for Castlevania...

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 9th through the July 15th)
  • I'm taking a bit of a break to avoid burnout, but I'm looking to start Crusader of Centy / Soleil from the Sega Mega Drive this weekend. In a simple sense it was Sega's bite back at Zelda: A Link to the Past but with jumping and animal companions. I even bought myself a whole controller (8bitdo M30) just to enjoy me some Mega Drive emulation.

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 9th through the July 15th)
  • I have a keen interest in this one. Please update on how you like it with another post/comment!

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 2nd through the July 8th)
  • Apparently 5-10 hours. I checked the website howlongtobeat.com.

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 2nd through the July 8th)
  • I might just give it a try as a palette cleanser because I've been playing exclusively long games lately. It's nice to have a shorter game between those.

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 2nd through the July 8th)
  • What are your favourites? Because I don't know where to go after XII, and I'm really in a JRPG mood.

  • What are you playing? (Week of July 2nd through the July 8th)
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. I'm enjoying it a lot! It has an interesting case of having the main protagonist of the story be a girl, but they opted to make the main character you play and pov of the game from a boy. Probably because that was their target demographic and who they expected to play being made for PS2 originally. I still like most of the characters.

I enjoy the feel of the game, there's a combat system called Gambits where you program your party members to auto attack. Example would be: Heal if HP = <50%, else attack. But like 10 steps to optimise how your party behaves meaning if properly prepared the combat is done automatically while still feeling fulfilling because you made them that smart with your skill build.

The most frustrating thing is people don't really praise 12 among the Final Fantasy fandom, and yet it's probably my favourite mainline so far!

  • What are your use cases for the Steam Deck?
  • I have a 1.5 hour commute in total each day to work, so that entire time can be spent gaming. I really like my bed, or the couch, or just in general different settings especially for the cozier games I prefer.

I game a lot so spending dozens of hours a week at the same desk and chair doesn't work very well for me. The option to play handheld or use my dock to move from my bed to my living room tv seamless is very welcome. Even once at a family gathering I brought it for us all to play Jackbox and it was a blast.

I play a lot of cozy games, ones that deserve to be played huddled up in a blanket on a couch, and I find them all the more enjoyable on Steam Deck than my Desktop.

  • What games have y'all been playing a lot on your deck recently?
  • I wanna 100% this game again just for the sake of playing it portably. Brilliant game.
