Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly forging for nectar on a Buttonbush plant [OC]
  • Thanks for the kind words. Indeed I was quite pleased with how this one turned out. Right after a substantial rainfall too

  • Happy to help, but can you elaborate on a photosphere? Is that just a 360° panoramic photo?

Everything shuts down over a few inches around here. Meanwhile I just say DA BEARS and grab the boots and camera.

In November of 2022, I photographed this tree amidst some fog while traveling in Shenandoah National Park. I captured the same image without fog in October of 2023. Here's a side-by-side. [OC]
  • Once you get into the woods the fog is substantially less. Not sure why. Here's a picture from that morning's hike taken on the Whiteoak Canyon Falls Upper Trail: https://lemmy.world/post/3812709

  • Thanks! He was totally watching my every move as I opened the window and started snapping. That's why I love this pic. He's staring straight into the lens! I was ~20 ft. away with my telephoto 😃

A man plays a flute at the weekly Meridian Hill Park drum circle in Washington, D.C. [OC]
  • It might have a different name, but I recognized it as an old school wooden one common across parts of the African continent.

This weekly drum circle established in 1979 at Meridian Hill Park in D.C. illustrates how rhythm and unity is ubiquitous across all cultures.

  • Oh wow! Thanks for the kudos.. I'm humbled! Glad this seasonal composite resonated with folks :)

  • Where and when did you serve?
  • I’ll kick it off: Lesotho group 80 (Community Health and Economic Development) from 2013-2015

    • Some of the grassroots projects I started in my village are still functioning today. By that metric it was certainly successful.
    • I didn’t even know what Lesotho was when I got my invite. Needless to say, it’s an absolutely beautiful part of the world and I consider it a 2nd home now.
    • Almost daily. I have two very close friends and we keep in touch on Whatsapp. I also returned in 2019 for a vacation/reunion and plan to do so every 5 years.
