I'm sure it will blow over
  • The strange thing about reddit refugees on Lemmy is that they have this weird sense that the platform they left actually died when they did so. The trith is that the vast majority did not migrate and are happily eating their spoonfed shit.

When we say it's dead, we mean what is used to be is dead. But let's not pretend the site actually died or is no longer working. We can all (justifiably) think it's a shit filled shell of it's former self without being in denial.

  • Do employers actually know or care about lying on resume?
  • Why do you think it requires you to lie? If you're lying on your resume it's (I can only assume) you are not actually qualified for the position you are applying for. I also assume that you are at more of an entry level in terms of your skills/qualifications. Is that accurate?

If you have success with that strategy good for you, but I'll caution others - as you get further in your career, interviews get longer and more in depth. If you say you know how to do something, you are often asked technical questions on that thing, or in-depth questions on how you'd implement that thing/skill/strategy/into the position. As others have said lying and embellishing are not the same thing. You can oversell your skill to a degree, but be prepared to need to put in extra work (probably off the clock and in your own time) to get yourself to the skill level you said you had. You may not need to! But in some positions, you may be RELIED on for that skill you're not as good at as you said you were.

Also - UPDATE your resume and keep it current. If you learned a new thing and can do it, put it on there before you forget you did it. Also, prioritize. Remove old things from your resume as you get further into your career and those skills/accomplishments are less impactful or Relevant. Replace with newer things. Keep track of what's going on in your field and stay up to date with buzz words and topics and be able to speak to them even if it's not your area of expertise.

  • Do employers actually know or care about lying on resume?
  • I assume it's because they don't have a very good resume and won't get called/interviewed otherwise.

  • Is not that god damn hard.
  • Sorry if this is a dumb but I legit never got into Twitter, and I only use Instagram to follow friends and bands I like.

How do I Mastadon? I'm not being sarcastic, not even a little. Like I literally have absolutely no concept of what I'm supposed to do on it or how to engage with it. Same with pixelfed tbh, like I open it, I see a milliong posts that have no comments or likes, I get confused and then I leave.

Like what do you do? How do you use it? Pretend I'm one of the idiot journalists this post is making fun of, happy to jump on that self-accepting sword!

Almost 5K Pirates migrated to lemmy. We're now 4th in lemmy communities browser!
  • Reddit allows writing about the Uyghur genocide

So do the vast majority of Lemmy instances.

when I use open source software, I don’t want to have any ties to Nazis and communists

Open source means it's open for everyone to use and work on. Everyone is an all inclusive term. People with different views than you can also know how to code and develop. There are people contributing to Lemmy of multiple races, backgrounds, and political beliefs.

  • You're worried about supporting communists/nazi's, but supporting reddit that is largely funded by a Chinese Conglomerate and has a CEO that used to moderate a borderline child porn sub wasn't a problem? Kind of an arbitrary line to draw, don't you think?

  • A single comic to describe my life since 2020

  • It's time to get some real content in this magazine - who else keeps calling it "the fetaverse" like feta cheese and gets cravings?
  • Keep cheesing these comments, and someone is liable to shred a verse about the fetaverse. Seriously, set a course, don't feel remorse, if you got no ride we'll take my cheddar horse. Or maybe take the train, Jerboa keep you entertained, don't be ashamed if you have gouda brain, not like we know your name anyway. Could be Jim, could be john, may never now what side you're on, only you decide if you're the pasta or the parmesan.

Oh...actually your name might be gus.

  • Avenged Sevenfold - G
  • It's really hard discussing music without it sounding disparaging when you don't like something, but man...I REALLY DO NOT like whatever they've become. But that's okay! It's not he first band to put out an album I don't like, and their style is fundamentally different from what it was when I was really into them. Longwinded exposition/background after this - feel free to ignore!

Waking the Fallen is probably a top 3 album for me, and really helped shaped my musical tastes for the long term. It's the album that made me learn double bass and get out of the pop-punk hole I lived in during high school. The Rev was my favorite drummer in the world until I eventually heard ABR, and remained up there until he died. The change to City of Evil and Self Titled was pretty huge but I still loved it, and damn near wore out my CD player on both. I even liked 2/3 of Nightmare, and you can FEEL where the Rev died during the writing of that album. Everything they've done since I feel has gotten worse/does less to make me want to listen to it with each iteration. And that's only MY opinion, plenty of others disagree. HttK wasn't for me, To the Stage REALLY wasn't, and this new album...WOOF. Like it's hard for me to reconcile that this is the same band that made those albums!

But like I said, I wouldn't/won't disparage anyone from liking what they like, and I hope it doesn't sound like that. I'm happy people like it, and that the band believes in what they're doing. My tastes have changed over the years too, and it feels like mine just diverge from the newer sound/style. There's plenty of music in the world for everyone!

  • Avenged Sevenfold - G
  • It seems like a lot of people enjoy the new album, but man, it is just not for me.

  • I feel the lack of AI bots in the Fediverse
  • I pointed this out in another thread, but the sheer amount of comments being posted when 95% of the subs (ballpark?) were dark was like.... impossible. I think the amount of bots on reddit is staggeringly higher than people realize, myself included.

  • August Burns Red - Beauty in Tragedy

    "Angry Music for Happy People"

August Burns Red (ABR) is probably my favorite band of all time, and yesterday they announced that their album "Rescue and Restore" is being repressed for the first time in celebration of it's tenth birthday! So I thought I'd share my favorite song off the album. It's a song about losing someone you love, and something that most people can (unfortunately) relate to.

One of their slogans, as I referenced above, is angry music for happy people. Their singer started a mental health focused gym recently (your life gym), and as a band they recently organized and hosted "Heart Support" festival. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I hope some of you enjoy it! I'll post the lyrics in a separate comment if anyone cares to read them.

Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 3
  • Hi welcome. Have fun with it! It's new, it's exciting. It's less developed but that just leaves tons of room for growth and polish! Reddit was over saturated and stagnant. Embrace the relatively empty pond!

  • This is very small potatoes, but I DIY'd a paver stone pad for my trash cans so they'd stop getting infested with bugs.

My wife and I have been complaining about how our trash cans keep getting infested with creepy crawlies that that build nests in the wheels out of the plant debris nearby. I had no idea how go best go about fixing this, so I just did it. I bought ten of these 16x16" paver stones, dug down a little, and used that big ass wood beam thing in the photo as a sort of leveler. It's actually blacktop about 4" down, so compaction should be minimal. Once I had them flush and evenly spaced, I backfilled around the edges so they stay flush and not shift too much. Then I hosed the area down a few times and added more backfill anywhere that settled or had gaps remaining.

We are redoing the landscaping at the house next year, so this won't be permanent, but for now it should help keep the area free of debris, and be less appealing to bugs.

I DIY'd a brick pad for my trashcans so they stop getting infested with bugs.

First, I'm sorry if this isn't 100% on brand, I know that this is more of a community betterment aimed community, but I wanted to post here because it can be very hard/overwhelming to take on personal improvement projects when you're not sure how to do them. So I was hoping it would help people! Mods if this is too off topic, I 100% am good with you deleting it.

Not every solution needs to be the very best or permanent, even if it just helps for a little while, it helps!

Only 1-3 games left, but can we get game threads going? I'll do it if people give me some pointers!

Title says it all. Ive never set up a game thread but it would be cool to have some for the final game(s) of the season! Anyone ever done one before? Interested?
