Return to Lothric Dark Souls 3 event June 13-27

This is one of my favorite things that the Reddit Dark Souls community does. I know right now there's only a handful of people in this community but hopefully it grows and we can keep the tradition going.

What do you think about Apple and its ecosystem? (And a little conversation I had with a colleague)
  • I 100% agree with your colleague, though I don't agree with his purity test. You're allowed to feel the way you do about medicine and still use whatever products you want. But, yeah, I don't own or use any Apple products, though I would like to own and restore an Apple IIe.

  • What are y'all's all time favourite game OSTs?
  • Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy 6 (the opera aria was played at my wedding)

Castlevania 3, specifically the six channel Famicom version

    Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

I'm old, if you couldn't tell

  • Jrpgs for a beginner
  • If you liked Persona 5 then don't sleep on Persona 4 Golden. And there's an upcoming remake of the excellent Persona 3, but they recently ported Persona 3 Portable to modern systems if you don't want to wait.

If you want something more traditional, I think Chrono Trigger holds up very well and is very accessible for new players compared to some of the other JRPGs of its era. If you want something traditional but a bit more modern, I think Final Fantasy 9,10, and 12 are all very easy to pick up and are on basically every system.

If you want to branch out to western RPGs, the Mass Effect trilogy and Dragon Age trilogy are both very easy to pick up, as are Skyrim or Fallout 4.

  • Anyone tried Diablo 4 on PlayStation?
  • -I'm currently playing on PS5 and I love it. I have had zero bugs. -I don't find it very complicated, but it is more so than the previous entries. -It's easily the best the series has been in 20 years.

  • I've never played Skyrim
  • Ok, everyone telling you no mods isn't wrong, BUT...I kind of find a few mods to be all but essential. Specifically, making your horse invincible but also unable to do damage will really save you a headache. You want both because if he's invincible then he'll just start kicking dragons to death. And then SkyUI because the default UI is awful.

  • Modern Pokemon games hold your hand too much.
  • I personally agree that they are, but I recognize that that's nostalgia. My 11 year-old's favorite is Sword/Shield. He tried some of the older ones but couldn't get into them. I think the oldest one he's enjoyed was X/Y.

  • Your favorite board games?
  • I'm not sure what my favorite is. My family and friends and I love Pandemic, Catan, Ticket to Ride, Throw Throw Burrito, and the first Walking Dead board game, the name of which is escaping me currently.

  • Comfort games?
  • Every few months, I will do a randomizer run of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I've played it so much that it's like taking a relaxing walk through a familiar neighborhood. It also has a great soundtrack.

  • How are you feeling right now (gaming-wise)?
  • So, Breath of the Wild is my favorite video game of all time, and Tears of the Kingdom is BotW+++, so I'm doing great game wise. I also started Diablo 4 last night and so far I love it. It's like if they took Diablo 2, then added in only the good parts of Diablo 3. I might change my tune as I continue, but so far I'm loving it. I'm still enjoying my daily Marvel Snap addiction, but I've gone from regular sitting in the 70s to struggling to break out of the 40s. But still fun, even if I lose, which is a mark of a good game.

  • Tara is only pretending to be sad

She's named for Amber Benson's character on Buffy.
