Project Rebalance: Overview, Scythe & Fang
  • Oh interesting, sounds pretty good to me. Didn’t realize some details had already been discussed. I do kind of like that idea that was raised a while back about like “resting” in bars to regen energy. Create little social hubs for early game players to congregate. Maybe make energy a bit worse early, but offer a way to recharge - just thinking out loud.

  • Project Rebalance: Overview, Scythe & Fang
  • The run energy changes - I think it’s worth rebalancing but I just hope they don’t change it so much that you can sprint through the early game. I feel like a big part of getting attached to the world is plodding your way through it at the beginning.

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • Just to add another data point, I have the same experience on windows and haven’t been able to solve it. I’m on windows 10, also an 8700k, and an RTX 3090. This build has no issues running modern stuff like cyberpunk /w ultra raytracing, starfield, bg3, etc.

Performance was never perfect but it absolutely tanked a few major updates ago. I THINK it was around the time the performance issues cropped up on the series x as well.

If you find any cause other than just “doesn’t play nice with older Intel CPUs” I’d love to know.

  • Do consumables just refresh now?
  • Character screen (where you switch your gear and weapons), menu on the bottom left if memory serves. Should have your cyberdeck, health item, and grenade/cyberwear (like optimal camo) all in that area.

  • Do consumables just refresh now?
  • Yes consumables are on a recharge system now. Finding/buying/crafting say, a particular legendary grenade is a big deal now, as it becomes a permanent part of your arsenal.

Personally I’m all for the change since it removes the whole “I’ll save this for when I really need it but never actually use it” temptation. Plus more choices about how to spend resources.

  • How to find easy and consistent starship fights (minor spoilers)
  • Yeah that’s the most reliable way for leveling piloting, but I agree it’s super boring. I’ll admit I didn’t try it but I don’t THINK it works for starship command. Starship command has challenges like “destroy 50 enemies with a crew of 6”, and the sim is a solo ship.

  • How to find easy and consistent starship fights (minor spoilers)

(Minor spoilers below for UC vanguard quests, mainly a person to speak to)

I posted a while back asking for advice on how to find starship battles easily. Got some good advice including mission tables and exploration, but I think I’ve finally found THE method.

After progressing far enough in the UC vanguard quest line, the original recruiter guy you talk to “Commander John Tuala” at the UC HQ will give you unlimited space combat missions and ONLY space combat missions with the option to take on UC vanguard work.

Each fight usually includes 2-3 easy enemies if you’re trying to level piloting or starship command. Often mission kiosk tasks will send you after only 1. (The sim is better for piloting, but you need something like this for starship command)

    Hope this helps folks!

Is it just me or is Starfield kinda meh?
  • Just FYI - ammo doesn’t weigh anything. I didn’t notice this for quite a while. If you have some cash go by a couple of gun/ammo shops and just buy out like, all of it. Pretty quickly you’ll get to the point where you have plenty of ammo for any gun you pick up. IMO the upfront cost is super worth not having to worry about having ammo for one gun or the other.

  • Where to get into starship combat?
  • Thanks for the tips! I completely forgot about the mission boards. That sounds like the best way to specifically take on some space combat missions. I’ll keep an eye out for those scanner activity points too though.

  • Where to get into starship combat?

First off - try to keep story spoilers to a minimum please, just locations and activities.

Im about 40 hours or so into starfield, not quite half way through the main story, with a fair bit of time spent just exploring systems and faction quests. My gear is MORE than sufficient for any ground combat, so I’ve dumped most of my credits into a killer starship. C-class power plant in a small maneuverable A class frame loaded with firepower.

The problem is, I can’t really find anyone to fight. Im friendly with just about everyone in the various faction stories so I rarely encounter enemies in space. Are there any regions you can point me to for some good old fashion space combat for fun and profit?

Any tweaks to get HDR running on pc?
  • It SEEMS so, but they also don’t have any HDR options and no way to tweak brightness so even if it’s technically “on” it doesn’t look right. I bought it from the Xbox store for pc/Xbox cross saves so I may experiment with it on the series x tomorrow. I just don’t want to choose between high frame rate and HDR.

This is most likely just coping, but I’m thinking MAYBE the big day 1 patch might fix this stuff? It’s pretty close to false advertising to list HDR10 on the msft store and have it simply not be there on the platform I primarily bought it for.

  • Any tweaks to get HDR running on pc?
  • Not in this case. I’m using a 3090 and an LG C2 OLED, both extremely competent for HDR games. In fact I’m not sure if I’ve played anything this year that didn’t support it (outside of a few indie games).

There’s simply no option to enable it in settings, and it doesn’t kick on automatically. This TV will also flash an HDR logo if it gets an HDR signal, and very obviously kick into that mode.

  • Any tweaks to get HDR running on pc?

Hey all - the consensus seems to be that HDR simply isn’t there which is a HUGE bummer for a space game, and especially strange since it’s listed on the store page. No man’s sky and the mass effect series (especially andromeda for this specifically) look STUNNING on an OLED with HDR.

If anyone finds a console command, tweak, workaround etc to enable it unofficially please post it!

    Edit: formatting

D4 - PC crash fix - xbox controller
  • Congrats! Glad I could help. I had the exact same experience as you. One of the weirdest bugs I’ve encountered in my long history of gaming.

Edit: and as a side note WHY does crashing kick you out of your keystone dungeon and brick the key instead of just burning a life? Just, WHY. That was the worst part for me.

  • Anyone else playing on Apple silicon?
  • Definitely not a VRAM thing - I play with a 3090 (24gb) and get tons of hitching. Haven’t had the chance to try on apple silicon but I suspect the performance is due to the really strong CPU cores. NMS is a very cpu intensive game.

  • S class freighter?
  • No problem! I don’t mean to discourage you, I just don’t want you getting frustrated with the game when an S class never appears. I believe I have a combined 250-300 hours between main save and expeditions and I’ve seen a ‘natural’ S class freighter exactly once, and it was on an expedition file.

I use the term ‘save scumming’ but not in a derogatory way. It’s just the best way to get a lot of things done in NMS. I used it to get my S class venator freighter, and several community find ships at S class (prior to setting up my nanite farm - not worth it if you have one). I mainly spent the time to get the freighter because it felt bad to me spending bulkheads on anything that wasn’t S class. More of a FOMO type thing than anything else. These days my freighter is my sole base of operations, with my bases purely existing as markers and resource farms. (On pc though, bummer to hear that it’s unstable on switch)

  • What are some reddit communities you wish to see live and more active on lemmy?
  • I just want to see enough folks from some of the gaming communities move over: (Most of these have small communities already, I just want growth!)

    2007scape for the memes

    Satisfactory for the incredible creativity

Nomanssky for the same reason ^

Forzahorizon for the weekly challenge discussions and screenshots

    FFXIV for the community ‘vibe’

Really any game with a fun online community, these are just a few of the ones I enjoy.

  • S class freighter?
  • Just my take - if you’re planning on playing the same save file for 100s of hours like some people (myself included) the minor bonuses and ‘flex’ factor of an s class freighter can be worth it. For any normal ‘I’m going to play for a while and then move on’ save it’s absolutely not worth it and you shouldn’t worry.

Without save scumming, freighter events occur every 3 hours ish of active play. At a roughly 2% chance in T3 systems that’s 150 hours on AVERAGE. The only realistic way to get one is the reload method that others have mentioned. It’s up to you if you whether or not you go that route, I just wanted to emphasize that you really shouldn’t count on ever finding one naturally.

P.s. I think it goes up to 5% in pirate systems but the storage and tech slots are drastically reduced, so it’s kind of a wash time wise since bulkheads are time intensive to acquire.

That assumes you’re also warping to a new eligible system every time that internal clock is running out. The only realistic way to get one is the reload method that others have mentioned. • What kind of players are in this community?
  • I just resub’d today since the mgp event is going on. Played the MSQ from start to finish (vanilla to endwalker) during the wow exodus period before dropping off for some single player stuff. Maxed all of my crafting and gathering jobs but never did much that would be called difficult.

Thinking I might have to learn a new job and finally give some of the raids and trials I never did a try.

  • D4 - PC crash fix - xbox controller

FYI for anyone who has been crashing on pc and using an Xbox controller, in my case since launch. Try connecting your controller with a cable and updating its firmware with the Xbox accessories app.

I was crashing 3-4 times a day on a fairly high end PC regardless of settings, frame rate cap, or repair when I found someone in either a Reddit or forum thread who tied the crash log to something related to the controller and suggested this. Sure enough it worked for me, zero crashes since, though I haven’t jumped back in since the new patch.

Just thought I’d share in case others are as baffled as I was.
