Why is diabetes spreading around the world?
  • What do you mean by "not genetically ready for it"? People in third world countries don't have significantly different genetics to those in first world countries, and people in first world countries haven't evolved since the introduction of McDonald's

  • Five deaths at sea gripped the world. Hundreds of others got a shrug.
  • A very unique situation gripped the world, a common situation got a shrug

This take is so dumb. Yes, migrants dying by the boatload is fucking awful, especially when in this case it seems like the government specifically let them die

But a janky submarine disappearing beneath the waves next to the world's most famous shipwreck with a fucking timer on the rescue mission due to air supplies is so much more gripping

It's not that the people were rich, or white, or whatever. It's the uniqueness of the situation coupled with the time sensitive nature of the rescue

  • Wagner Boss says invasion of Ukraine is based on LIES as he condemns Military leaders
  • I don't disbelieve the article, I've seen it on many news sites. The fact remains that the sun isn't a source of news. It's a tabloid, and has been caught lying countless times

    Once more to be clear

The Sun is NOT a news source

  • Can someone break down the whole Beehaw controversy?
  • To be very brief:

Beehaw seeks primarily to protect its users and create a space where they aren't going to be attacked for being who they are.

The Beehaw admins noticed they were dealing with a lot of hate from 2 lemmy instances which had open sign ups.

Beehaw defederated from those 2 instances.

There's been some kickback from people who think defederating goes against the core values of Lemmy.

That's all I've got, I'm sure others will be able to add to this
