What the Hell Happened to my Cookies?
  • Could have been the butter condensing more towards the bottom of the bowl? Maybe try mixing it up a little bit before scooping out some onto the trays to keep the same consistency in each batch

  • Unity May Never Win Back the Developers It Lost in Its Fee Debacle
  • There is C# support in Godot. I'm not sure how many tutorials have been made with it in particular, but I think there's plenty. Plus their docs go over the API differences so shouldn't be hard to use in any case

  • Unity will start charging developers each time their game is installed
  • As typical as it is for the current indie game dev climate, making a 'Vampire Survivors' type game is probably a really good starting point for game development. 2D games are somewhat easier to make than 3D ones, so a 2D roguelike could be fun (but get's very complex very quickly) or a old-school Zelda styled game would also be pretty cool in my opinion while remaining fairly simple.

Here's are a couple other avenues to learn off the top of my head:

    • Follow along with one or two of the large amount of tutorials they have for the engine and adding new features and gameplay mechanics to them when you feel like it.

    • Think of a cool but simple idea and try to execute it yourself through trial and error, referencing the online docs and asking questions to the Godot game dev community.

It can be super daunting as there is a lot to learn. Try to learn by working on something that you yourself think is fun and that'll keep you more motivated :)

  • [How is your day going?]
  • Was feeling alright this morning with a decent amount of energy. Starting exercising again on my work break but my office is not cooling me down enough.

Currently running a program (software dev) that's taking ages to finish so I feel like I'm not putting in enough effort but can't do much about it.

Going to paint some miniatures and play BG3 when I get home which is always good.

Overall I'd say pretty decent and an improvement over my last week :) Just trying to make small improvements to my daily life helps in a big way.

  • Neo-Nazi groups spew hate outside Disney World and near Orlando, officials say
  • Interesting. I figured with all the fresh anti-nazism immediately after WW2 the US would have made some kind of law against this kind of thing considering just how much people at the time disliked Nazis. Maybe they just thought it wouldn't happen in the US later on? Or the cold war threat made everyone reprioritize perhaps?

I'm speaking and thinking from a historical lense regardless of modern politics if that wasn't clear

  • [How is your day going?] 25 August
  • Been stuck on the same project for months now and am feeling a bit burnt out on it. I would like a change of pace with another project but also I'm getting close to the end of it. Just need to power through

  • Are ranged weapons just worse than melee?
  • That is quite steep. But I guess it makes up for it by returning behind a solid wall, so they can't actually target you unless they move. Another alternative is to have an ally grab them. Then you can lean out and shoot twice right?

And instead of requiring cover to hide, you could create a diversion using deception and shoot them in the back which is a different kind of sneaky.

  • How easy is it to use Pathfinder Pawns Bases or similar, with your own printouts?
  • I have the PDF files and printed them on A4, then glued 2 blank A4 together and glued the PDF prints on either side of that. Gave it enough thickness and we are still using them a few years later. Took a while to do all the gluing but I would say it was worth it for us.

For the stands I bought some bull clips to stand them upright while waiting for an Amazon order of these

They were cheaper at the time I bought them but they hold the pawns well.

  • Are ranged weapons just worse than melee?
  • You should be able to hide behind waist high cover in front of you as one action, then fire out of it immediately after as another action.

There's probably a firing angle that you could still do that for a wall corner too. Also I want to point out that you won't be able to stride out of a hidden position because you would lose hidden as soon as you stride. You would need to use the sneak action and end that movement behind something else that breaks line of sight because ending a move action in direct line of sight makes you "observed" instead of "hidden".

  • An Attempt at less scary gas masks
  • I remember reading a comment about this when it was posted elsewhere a while back. They said at the time that the mask was actually not as creepy as we think it is now. We have generations of people that have grown up watching horror movies and playing video games like FNAF that have altered our perception of creepy. In the same way clowns used to not be creepy. The comment also mentioned that since Mickey was a beloved icon for children it actually comforted them to wear a mask in that form. Also it's worth noting that there were much more horrific things occurring daily for them so this was probably quite tame in comparison.

This comes from someone else who heard about it from their grandparents so take it with a grain of salt, but it wasn't necessarily a scary thing for them at the time.

  • Karen’s Are Important People
  • This is indeed an unpopular opinion!

But I've worked in fast food so I cannot in good conscience agree with it. I have some appreciation for assertive people with legitimate complaints, but "Karen's" as we know them are not that. They tend towards illegitimate and illogical complaints because they seem to feel entitled to get what they want, sometimes regardless of what they specifically asked for.

Nevertheless it's a hospitality workers endless burden to deal with these types. I understand the specific merits of what your post outlines, I just don't like it 🙂

  • Is it worth closing the lid on a toilet before flushing?
  • I saw the same or a very similar video.

Someone once tried to argue against it by saying it still got the droplets in the air with the lid closed so there's no point. My counterargument was that it still contained a lot of the droplets by closing it and that it's the most minor of inconveniences to close it so you should just do it anyways.
