I've been here a year and I probably still don't know much about the Fediverse. I played/watched a bunch of video games and might want to tell someone about them. My tabletop RPG days are behind me.
@[email protected] "...and you can forget Burning Rangers on the Saturn..." I think most never even heard of it. I didn't until the private servers for Phantasy Star Online included one of the songs from it in the audio files.

@[email protected] Meanwhile, the actual clowns in Fighters Destiny...
@[email protected] Rainbow Studios did a great job on this game, even if there's no deep story and for gameplay reasons they took a lot of liberties with the tarantula. You get to have a boss fight with King Koopa's actor.
@[email protected] @[email protected] "What's so scary about Wii Fit???" Put an alphabet on the balance board, now it's a Wii-ja board. flees
@[email protected] How many different ways did you interpret the "Rayden" body torpedo voice sample?
@[email protected] Comparing MK1 to Tuff E Nuff? Ouch. There were only 4 playable characters in that one, and one had a cloned moveset. Tuff E Nuff's instant replay feature was kind of neat when paired with the Nintendo Switch Online version's ability to record a short video, but hit and hurtboxes are so much jankier. I had the chance to play both the Super NES and Genesis releases and to young me the blood code was interesting, but I appreciated Liu Kang's altered fatality.
@[email protected] There was a second McDonald's-themed platformer?
@OutofPrintArchive I still don't get why people took armor off of Kuros (in this and in Video Power), when the armor he wore was what made him distinct.

@[email protected] Before Twitter died, he was reaching out to the people who sent in entries for the Mega Man 6 robot master contest. Some of them responded with updates of their original illustrations or new robot master ideas.
@[email protected] Art of Nintendo Power has tracked down some figures, as well as the Track & Field shoes and Wiley Machine 1.
@OutofPrintArchive Those clay figures for the marketing materials must have taken so long to make.

@[email protected] "Nothing can prepare you..." for the input reading and 1-frame throws done by computer-controlled opponents.
@OutofPrintArchive "The software patents just don't work," from Giles Goddard is notable, while modern Nintendo tries to bludgeon Pal World with software patents. Also, look at that crunch time. "One of the programmers had quite a hard time of it, and two of them decided not to make games any more because of Mario 64. Not because they didn't enjoy it, but because they'd burned themselves out."
@[email protected] I find it interesting that this review doesn't mention the computer telling you where to go at all, but its also correct you had to find your own way to security rooms.
Contrary to the verdict box, you could not play the original Metroid within Metroid Fusion. You could get a GBA link cable and unlock it in Metroid Prime, along with the Fusion suit skin for that game. No save states in that emulator, just the password system.
@[email protected] @[email protected] It took Yoshinori Ono trying to build hype with the fans to even get Darkstalkers Resurrection made.
@[email protected] When it was localized as Illusion of Gaia for North America, the difficulty was increased in a strange way. The healing item in the game (the herb) was already only available in a finite number, but they were reduced from a full heal to restoring 8 HP. Would you happen to know if the same happened to the European localization, Illusion of Time?
@[email protected] A shame so many had to wait until 2002, when it actually was running off CD-ROM with load times. I don't think the reviewers reached the 2nd half of the game, or they might have upped the originality rating, but multiple-dozen-hour RPGs and deadlines don't go well together.
@[email protected] I'm glad I didn't have magazines telling me to expect exactly the arcade experience, because I was quite happy with the cut-down Super NES version with a total lack of 3D & lighting effects. Also, I don't recall Nintendo Power attempting to insult the reader's masculinity, despite the "Play It Loud" campaign doing things like making Kirby eat a human whole in a television ad.
@[email protected] How did they ever come up with that "Samus' daughter" bit at the top? This would have been printed after Fusion's European release date. I know people were confused by the Fusion suit, but...
@[email protected] I didn't see it mentioned that Order of Ecclesia could be linked to Castlevania Judgment for unlocking things in both games.
