  • I don't deny that it's here and that people are going to do it, but people shouldn't be advocating that or allowed to advocate it without repercussions. I can't believe you're sitting here trying to justify giving leeway to something so atrocious.

But you’re twisting things to fit your narrative here.

I don't see how, it seems pretty cut and dry to me, I'm calling out something that is terrible and would've been actioned more severely on almost any other instance, but I can see why you'd be defensive here. Have a nice day.

  • I think a bigger problem is that like Reddit or Facebook Lemmy.world lets these people continue to post and participate there, most only get temporary bans, I distinctly remember a person who used the R-slur multiple times and was blatantly transphobic, yet last I checked he only got temp banned, and otherwise are completely welcome back even after such atrocious behavior.

One user I can refer to is Mojave, but he certainly isn't the only case, there are plenty more like him. I remember he had quite the abusive spree in [email protected], if memory serves he made quite a few transphobic attacks, unfortunately it doesn't show up in the modlog because they purged him rather than removing (he also apparently had some very bad behavior in [email protected] but I'm not there and don't remember it).

  • He was also saying that CSAM should be legal so they can indulge in their fantasies I think many would agree that that's pretty rotten, but what do I know.

  • Oh no they see the spam and bullying behavior (they’ve even been on the receiving end of it) they don’t see it as a problem because they’re a “trans positive instance”.

And the politics of the Hexbears is something they’re seemingly willing to overlook in the name of keeping trans positive communities together.

Yeah that's really weird because hexbear often behaves in a way that paints trans people in a bad light, including the fact that they often push for certain ideologies and philosophies that are directly harmful to trans people. As well as certain philosophies that hurt everyone in general like being pro-genocide. How are they in any way a good representation of this community or the people in it, and how is it good for this community to have such destructive people tearing the place up?

  • That is true, sh.just.works does allow some pretty terrible communities. Both of them have atrocious user moderation standards, there was a guy on sh.itjust.works who made terrorist threats, regualarly, he was banned from many other instances but his account on shitjustworks is still standing, even after they reviewed it. Really terrible instance.

I would say Lemmy.world is still pretty high up there considering they only ban subs that make them look bad, and only temporarily ban transphobic or bigoted users, in many cases they won't even acknowledge transphobia, instead banning users for homophobia or trolling, one time they even appealed a user who was posting MAP (Pedophile) pride shit and was perma banned for it, they reduced his ban to 7 days after email communication, what kind of instance unbans a person pushing MAP pride shit? That shit is dangerous (Modlog entry for the pedo user they unbanned just in case there was any doubt).

IMO both of these instances are absolutely atrocious with their moderation policies.

  • Not talking back or being snarky but if you feel that way you might seriously want to look into Lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works, they have very bad track records of letting transphobes and bigots run wild, Lemmy.world is the worst, many of the people they've banned for bigotry have been unbanned or were only given temporary bans to begin with, often times they won't even action users who are engaging in transphobia, even if reported. It's really not great.

I used to believe Beehaw was a bit overly strict but honestly I can see they blocked these instances for good reason, especially Lemmy.world.

  • expressed the intention of federating with them the moment instance level blocking works

Ah so I take it they don't believe the spam and hostility concerns about Hexbear users are legitimate, if they did their solution to the problem wouldn't be "just block them lol", it would be to keep Hexbear Censured. Though it might anyway, since the Instance blocking doesn't seem like it'll ever work the way anyone thinks/wants it to:

Users can now block instances. Similar to community blocks, it means that any posts from communities which are hosted on that instance are hidden. However the block doesn’t affect users from the blocked instance, their posts and comments can still be seen normally in other communities.

Siding with Hexbear is a red flag, considering the ammount of problems they cause from spamming to the pro-genocide propaganda they push out.

  • Yeah I agree, this definately does seem like a knee jerk reaction which ultimately does more harm than good.

  • I wanna be femboy, happy christmas btw
  • I really hope this is a joke because the egg stuff can be quite hurtful to femboys and GNC people, it's often used against them to say that they're just trans girls in-denial (especially for the ones who took feminizing hormones). Just for clarity to call a Femboy a girl when they don't want it, is misgendering, calling them an egg is extremely disrespectful and invalidates their gender identity.

I know this might've been a joke but all too often these kinds of things are said in contexts where it isn't a joke and comes off as hurtful. Also it's often very hard for people to tell because one person may say it as a joke but another person may mean it whole heatedly.

  • That is true, I mean that this one

Is also a natural stopping point for femboys in the same way that this one

is for Gender Conforming Cis people.

So while technecally any point could be a stopping point, despite being very uncomfortable (especially this one) what I meant is that this is a definitive end point for people who consider themselves femboys, as in males who identify as male but choose to dress and present in a feminine way.

  • Gender Rule
  • Not all femboys and tomboys are gay. There are GNC people of all sexualities.

  • A helpful flowchart [AMAB] [by Grumpy-TG]
  • I feel like the way they included stop portions on the masculine side they should've also included a stop portion on the feminine side because femboys are valid too, and aren't just "trans girls in-denial" like is often said about us.

  • Men rule
  • Only if they want to, gender swapping should never be done to someone against their will.

  • 4am posting happy new year
  • Happy late New year. Should've posted earlier.

  • Happy First Birthday Blåhaj Lemmy!
  • Happy birthday! Thank you so much for creating such an awesome and happy space.

  • New Rule: Everything I don't like is antisemitic
  • Seems those other people haven't really learned anything from it at all, considering they'd still be down for it happening to anyone else.

  • Blocking domain on lemmy?
  • I think Lemmy 0.19 has this feature, though if you're having problems with spam users from those instances you'll need to report them or have your administrator deal with them, as the domain blocking feature does not hide users.

Also even if it did the act of hiding users isn't great since people commiting violations need to be dealt with or otherwise impeded from doing so, and blocking doesn't stop them whatsoever. At least on Reddit it locked them out from replies but here it's the same as ignoring them. I know people didn't like that but the majority of people who I've seen complain about being blocked on Reddit (especially by me) were:

    1. Transphobes, truscum included (I blocked a lot of them when the blocking changed to Two way)
    2. Trolls (especially the alt-right variety, but a decent amount of commies, tankies, and your average "enlightened centrists")
    3. Scammers
    4. Pedophiles (AKA "MAPs")
  • fish tacos rule
  • I'm going to puke, please tell me it's not real (it's real isn't it).

  • There's a joke to be made about this but I feel like I'd overstep some boundaries rule
  • It's also uncomfortably similar to the excuse used by alt-right conservatives when it comes to their abuse of trans kids, just with kids instead of babies in their case.

  • Gender isn't real: it's just an idea

    Egg_irl [Transmasc Meme] [Nonbinary Meme]

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION] drowning kid + skeleton Meme

In the top panel a mother and her kids are together in a swimming pool. The mother with text "egg_irl" is holding up her daughter with the text "transfems" over her. Meanwhile her son is drowning while she doesn't notice him with the text "transmascs" over him.

In the bottom Panel a skeleton is chained to a chair at the bottom of the ocean with the text "NonBinary/Genderqueer", "Genderfluid", and "Agender" over it. Each label is colored in the colors of their own Flags respectively.

    [END OF IMAGE DESCRIPTION]

context: Back on the original egg_irl subreddit it was common for there to be a disproportionate amount of transfem memes versus the others and a lot of them forgot to flair as [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem] when needed and also a few were a bit targeting towards transmascs and masculine enbies i.e.

    spoiler

"get rid of your toxic, masculine mannerisms"

    or

    spoiler

    "transmascs have cute feminine faces"

. Some people even started saying Egg_irl is specifically a women's space and not a trans space in general.
