If anyone ever asks you about sails
  • although it could have been better with a less two-dimensional Maturin.

    FTFY

You must admit that in the books Maturin is the most compelling and well-explored personality, and the character POB most closely identifies with (finding based solely on personal assumption, mea culpa).

I would assert that the film, as good as it is, reinforces my thesis that the golden age of sail is the least adaptable to film of any literary genre. The movie is to the books as a description of the Grand Canyon is to the actual experience.

Also they are “studding sails” and referred to colloquially as “stun’sl’s” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studding_sail

    So there.

  • How do you get 35 grams of fiber daily without going over 2000 calories?
  • These are from a food diary app FatSecret (easy, powerful, limited nagging to upgrade to premium). High protein, high fiber, low carb, low calorie.

I’m cheating with the psyllium husk capsules but they really don’t add that much to overall fiber intake and not included here is the 2-3 servings of greens-heavy salad I eat daily because salad doesn’t add to macros significantly but does provide lots and lots of fiber.

You could easily swap some proteins for high-quality carbs and still get ample fiber while staying under 2000 calories AND achieving satiety (critical). I’m maintaining a 1kcal/day deficit (through exercise) and not suffering (much).

    Tl;dr: eat more veg

    Hope that helps.

  • Name this band
  • Nah, merely an aficionado of the more profane elements of the language. Of which the Aussies are amongst the very finest practitioners thereof, certainly.

Incidentally, are not all chaps intrinsically assless? Unless it is two or more meager-assed fellows/chaps to whom you refer?

  • A view

A view of the bar at Maggy McGarry’s, an unassuming little pub in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco that will furnish you with a pint o’ Guinness and a Tullamore Dew neat at 9:30 on a Sunday morning, should the need arise.

Apologies for the potato quality photo; more of a PSA than anything artful.

    Cheap, good quality travel pants?

Looking for recommendations on good quality, affordable, technical (lightweight, low cotton, high stretch) pants (no zip off legs, please) that will travel well, largely wrinkle free, and can dress up and down depending on pairings. Trying to avoid the cargo pant look. Does such a thing exist, or is it like the old saying: good cheap or fast, pick two?

    One console, one game

If you could only re-experience from new one game (like total immersion, wide-eyed wonder-at-the-majesty-of-it-all re-experience) and had yet to pick a console (Xbox versus PlayStation), what game on which console and why? (and feel free to remark on ideal controllers, add-ons, etc.)

I was hoping Starfield might be that kind of galvanizing experience, but the reviews are pretty underwhelming. So now casting about for the real deal.
